1st Philippine Geomatics Symposium
PhilGEOS 2012
Philippine Geomatics: practice, applications and accomplishments

INVITATION

Everyone is invited to the PhilGEOS 2012 to be held on November 23-24, 2012 at the College of Engineering, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

PhilGEOS 2012 will be the very first symposium on Geomatics in the Philippines. It is being organized by the Department of Geodetic Engineering as one of the major activities to commemorate its 75th year founding anniversary. With support from the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), PhilGEOS 2012 is envisioned to be a major gathering of educators, researchers and the industry in the field of Geomatics from different parts of the country. It will be held with the theme “Philippine Geomatics: practices, applications and accomplishments”, and will tackle the following topics:

  • Geomatics Education: transitions of surveying and mapping education to Geomatics; curricula design, implementation and integration in engineering, environmental science and natural resource management.
  • Geospatial Technology for Earth Resource Mapping and Assessment
  • Geomatics in Disaster Risk Assessment and Mitigation
  • Geomatics and the Environment
  • Geomatics Industry Session

This 2-day event will consist of: (1) Plenary Sessions and Discussions, where speakers with vast and solid experience in Geomatics will speak on various topics focusing on the main symposium theme; (2) Technical and Poster Sessions, where researches and significant activities in the field of Geomatics will be presented; and (3) Exhibits, where government agencies and companies involved in Geomatics will be given opportunity to showcase their projects and products during the symposium.

A symposium like the PhilGEOS will be a good venue to synthesize and publicize the long history of Geomatics practice and applications in the Philippines and the accomplishments that go along with it. Geomatics continue to evolve as the technology of gathering and managing spatial information advances. The symposium will provide a platform for various sectors involved in Geomatics to gather and exchange knowledge and gain an insight into the state of the art in the current technology, techniques and solutions. But most of all, PhilGEOS is aimed to establish a powerful academic-industry connection, facilitate idea exchange and encourage research and development in the growing geospatial science and technology field in the Philippines.

Let us all gather at the PhilGEOS 2012 to present papers, discuss technical issues, exchange ideas, and make new connections with participants from all over the Philippines!

Everyone is invited to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations in the parallel technical sessions of PhilGEOS 2012.

Researchers, faculty members, geomatics professionals and practitioners, as well as undergraduate and graduate students conducting researches and applying Geomatics in education, resource mapping and assessment, disaster risk assessment and mitigation environmental management, and related areas are encouraged to submit abstracts.

Abstracts should have a maximum of 500 words, and as much as possible, focus on the symposium theme “Philippine Geomatics: practice, applications and accomplishments”. Each abstract may fall under any of the following symposium topics:

  • Geomatics Education
  • Geospatial Technology for Earth Resource Mapping and Assessment
  • Geomatics in Disaster Risk Assessment and Mitigation
  • Geomatics and the Environment

All submitted abstracts will be screened by the PhilGEOS Technical Program Committee.

Abstracts should be submitted online through the Abstract Submission ( http://philgeos2012.wordpress.com/abstract-submission/). Authors who have successfully submitted their abstracts will receive a e-mail notification.

Abstract Submission Deadline: 15 SEPTEMBER 2012
