GLOBAL KIDS ECLIPSE 2009

JULY 22, 2009@ASIA 9:30 am - 12:00pm (JST)

In the morning of July 22, the longest total solar eclipse of this century will be visible from a path that begins in India and will cross to Nepal, Myanmar, China and Japan and will end in the middle of the Pacific. A partial eclipse will be visible from other countries in Asia.

This event aims to share this unique experience with children and young people from different countries, locations and backgrounds and promote a multicultural exchange. We will provide a common virtual space for children in Asia where they can see the eclipse images transmission from in other locations and also participate in other real-time interaction activities related to this event. PROMOTING SCIENCE

2009 is the International Year of Astronomy—a global effort initiated by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and UNESCO—and this eclipse will be a special mark this year. And The Global Kids Eclipse 2009 will bring Science closer to children in Asia and can also motivate their interest in this field. FEELING GLOBAL

Children from many location in Asia will share the same experience—the total solar eclipse—and will be able to interact with others using advanced technology of distant communication.

They will be connected through the SOI Asia (School on Internet Asia) network with children and young people from other five countries. The contact with remote sites will make this event an inspiring and stimulating opportunity for exchange and global understanding.
