This study sprouts from my personal experience of the continuous censorship of information about the Japanese Occupation in the Philippines in Japanese media, and tackles Japan’s and NHK’s historical and political background in order to explain such phenomenon. Specifically, this research examines how the transformation of media in Japan has resulted to media suppression, which directly affects the knowledge and opinions of the people. An integrated study extrapolating from a variety of selected texts, this study seeks to identify some of the factors that contribute to this censorship of materials on World War II in NHK. It aims to recognize how the transformation of Japanese government and bureaucracy, as well as NHK as a broadcasting organization, has affected its media content on international affairs, specifically the dissemination of information about World War II in the Philippines. Ultimately, this research does not pretend to be a comprehensive analysis of NHK as an organization. Rather, it should be seen as an attempt, unique of its own kind, to integrate aspects of Japanese media, specifically NHK, to form a basis for analyzing the effects of its transformation, as well as creating a platform for further research into the study.
