ECONOMY MEASURES OF UP DILIMAN

1. Reduction in the volume of consumption of fuel, water, office supplies, electricity and other utilities by adopting the following measures:

a) Turn off main water valve after 7:00 pm., turn on at 6:00 am. next morning to minimize losses due to underated leaking pipes.
b) Remind all UP Diliman units to cause the repair of all leaking faucets and water closets; adjust/monitor water closets to operate a minimal level of water consumption; report busted pipes to CMO.
c) Remind every one to turn off all water and electrical appliances/equipment when not in use, during lunch (12:00-1:00 p.m.), and before leaving the office. Custodial workers shall be instructed not to switch on the lights and air-con units before office opens at 8:00 o' clock or when offices are still unoccupied.
d) Whenever practicable, as in most executive offices, air-con units should not be turned on all at the same time but on an alternate basis and that these should be switched from HIGH to LOW as soon as the room is cool enough. Air-con units shall be switched on at about 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
e) When leaving the office for meeting or business outside the building, lights and air-con units should also be shut off.
f) Regular cleaning and maintenance job on air-con units (filter and condenser) and fluorescent/incandescent bulbs (diffusers).
g) Encourage the use of only low-wattage, energy saving bulbs; limit use of electric stoves and and other electrical appliances; telephones0 limit usage of the Academic Oval lights and spotlight at Quezon Hall.
h) Recycling of supplies and materials such as back to back use of bond paper and continuos forms for other uses; back-to-back xeroxing/photocopying of documents;reduced number of copies of correspondences/documents.
i) Re-issue memorandum regarding limited use of PLDT phones for long-distance calls encourage units to us individual phone PIN numbers for this purpose.
j) Only UP offices should be connected to UP Utilities Networks (electricity, water and telephones). Non-university users within the campus and buildings should be made to pay for the utilities networks, such users should have a separate meter or sub-meter and billed accordingly.

2. Overtime service of personnel shall only be as authorized and with prior approval offices, equipment and appliances should not be used by personnel; except during authorized overtime service.

3. Limit official entertainment and/or functions outside the campus unless extremely unavoidable.

a) Require list of guest and the purpose of the function/s.
In order to ensure the cooperation of all U.P Diliman constituents in adopting and economy program, all colleges/units will be requested to come up with their own list of economy measures for campus-wide implementation.
