How to archive a film thesis on Obletorr

You may archive huge media files (ex: film thesis) on Obletorr, provided you yourself own these files downloadable within Dilnet only (for now). Here's how:
- Step 1: Using your favorite bittorrent client, create a .torrent file by
- selecting a file that you want to share and
- adding the ff torrent tracker:
http://ikot.dilc.upd.edu.ph:6969/announce
http://toki.dilc.upd.edu.ph:6969/announce
Please write the appropriate description of the file you are sharing.
(If you have no bittorrent client yet, download Transmission or µTorrent.)
- Step 2: Connected via Dilnet, open the resulting .torrent file, using your torrent client.
- Step 3: Upload and share your file with a permanent DILC seeder by doing the following:
- sending the resulting .torrent file to obletorr@dilc.upd.edu.ph
- uploading the resulting .torrent file to obletorr.upd.edu.ph
- seeding the file file until at least 1 DILC server has a complete copy of your files
Tips
- Most updated BitTorrent clients can also handle direct connection via UDP. So add:
udp://tracker.openbittorent.com:80
- For better sharing experience, encourage the people you share your files with to maintain a ratio of at least 1 for each file they got via BitTorrent.
- If you (or other members of your group) DO NOT post your .torrent file in any publicly accessible sites, the files you're sharing may not be publicly searchable and therefore their distribution or access will be limited only to your group.
- To share several files and directories all at once, compress or zip the files and directories into one file or put them in one directory and make a .torrent out of it.
- If you're not submitting the .torrent file to Obletorr, DO NOT include this tracker:
http://obletorr.upd.edu.ph/announce.php
Use these instead:
http://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce
http://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce
- Be patient. In rare times when trackers are busy, it can take up to 6 hours before your peer-to-peer transmission begins. If it's beyond this period and no transmission takes place, you may email uvle@upd.edu.ph so DILC staff can help diagnose the problem.
