Constitution of University Academic Technologies Committee (Call for Comments)

This proposal to establish or constitute a University Academic Technologies Committee seeks to address the perennial challenges of introducing, integrating, maintaining, upgrading academic technologies in the University--particularly in 3 interrelated domains of instruction, research, and administration.

Rationale

Technological obsolescence, upkeep and maintenance of facilities, optimal utilization, integration of technologies and online contents into the curriculum, efficient deployment of technologies in services supporting instruction and research--these are some of the challenges facing the University. Needed, therefore, is a more systematic way of addressing these issues. A core of dedicated faculty should be able to help us confront these challenges.

Proposed Functions[1]

  • Planning, management, coordination, supervision of media contents (media services, web apps, webpages/sites), research platforms, academic technology-related training, and hardware (equipment and infrastructure, AVRs, servers and storage); and
  • Advisory and recommendatory body on policies involving the above.

Qualifications of College AT Committee Members

  1. Must be a faculty member of the College
  2. Appointed by the respective Deans/Heads of Units



Privileges of College AT Committee Members

  • Three-unit (3 u.) administrative de-loading (only if the Committee is created by respective Units)



Responsibilities of ATC Members

  1. Chair the college committee consisting of fellow members as appointed by the Deans/Heads of Units
  2. Report needs of colleges and its subunits in terms of
    1. IT infrastructure
    2. media contents
    3. digital resources for instruction and research
  3. Coordinate with UPCC, DILC, and PABX.
  4. Coordinate the management and supervision of media contents, media services, sites, research platforms, academic technology-related training, equipment and infrastructure, AVRs, servers and storage at the college or academic unit.
