Abstract
Due to the rapid growth in terms of ICT ownership and use, the need to have high digital literacy is becoming more relevant for individual productivity and security in a knowledge-based society. However, little is known about how literacy levels affect privacy behaviors in social networking sites (SNS), especially in the Philippines.
This study examines how digital literacy affects informational, social, and psychological SNS privacy behaviors of Metro Manila youth ages 18-30. Using Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behavior as guiding framework, a self-administered survey of 403 respondents, selected through multi-stage sampling, was done to know how the youth deliberate their behavior on Facebook. Results revealed that the youth's level of digital literacy affected their behavioral attitude, and self-efficacy towards the different types of privacy behaviors in the context of Facebook. Furthermore, findings show that digital literacy has an indirect but positive, significant relationship with their informational, social, and psychological privacy-related behaviors in Facebook.
