"Ang High School at si Olive" situates the protagonist in different social environments - educational institutions, familial residences, religious communities - which greatly influence her beliefs and sensibilities. Also, the filmmaker presents how being genuine in a world of strange faces greatly affects how we decide to portray ourselves in society. Through this, the filmmaker tries to explore just how much and if we should conform to the influences of our surroundings to the point where we may no longer be ourselves and instead, mirror others.
