Abstract

< Samson, T.O. (2016) Hilom, Unpublished Undergraduate Thesis, University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication.

Hilom is a short narrative film that aims to show the positions the youth choose to take in their day to day lives in light of political happenings occurring in their own environment. The story tells of a day in the life of siblings Charles and Charmaine, and how they individually spend their days independent of each other’s concerns. It aims to give the audience a look and a different perspective on how political issues could be viewed. The film gives nuances of the prevalence of Culture Industry in today’s Philippine society and its relation to political manipulation and hegemony. The film also hints on the characters’ own socially constructed realities to describe how the priorities, concerns, and reactions of the youth today are reciprocally confirmed within their own subcultures. >
