Alovera, J.A.III M. (2014). Code Greimas: a semiotic analysis of the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 using the Greimassian Approach, BA Thesis, University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication.

This thesis analyzes the semiotics of the anime series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and its second season Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 using the Greimassian approach of Algirdas Julien Greimas. The text presents dominant themes and messages of racial equality, gender equality, and the need for revolution to achieve positive change in the world. This study aims to prove that despite the promotion of these values, the text contradicts itself. The Greimassian approach analyzes the program at different levels, each involving narrative elements such as storyline, plot development, characters, vocabulary and ideologies. Upon deeper analysis, the anime series actually presents the direct opposite of the apparent themes. A race is superior to others, female characters are weaker than male characters and a revolution or rebellion is not an effective instrument of positive change.
