General Information
Three Islands. Two Languages. One Organization.
Established on February 16, 1976, UP Sidlangan serves as the home away from home for UP Diliman students from Eastern Visayas. Since then, the organization has produced alumni who were to become the prime movers of the region.
UP Sidlangan has also been expanding its network as it actively participates in the Generation Peace, a peace-advocate movement among youth organizations nation-wide. It has also been an active member of the UP Sanlahi Alliance, the umbrella organization of provincial, regional and ethno-linguistic organizations in UP Diliman. For the past two years, UP Sidlangan has been awarded as the 'Best Org' among the sixteen member organizations of the UP Sanlahi.
Currently, UP Sidlangan has 45 resident members--the biggest among regional organizations in UP Diliman. The organization continues to offer holistic development among its members by exposing them to various events and activities while being of service to the home region.
Principles
1) We believe that the students are part of the society and should channel their efforts to socially and culturally relevant endeavors.
2) We believe in the promotion of academic freedom and the protection of student’s rights and welfare as requirements for a genuine academic and student life.
3) We believe that the organization can contribute to the development of the members, both as individuals and as a group.
4) We believe in the concept of “home away from home” and that the organization will serve as such to its members.
5) We believe that we can contribute to the development of Biliran, Leyte, and Samar.
Objectives
1) To unite and organize the UP Diliman students from Region VIII for the attainment of their common interest.
2) To encourage activities and endeavors toward social, cultural, and intellectual development among its members.
3) To foster greater mutual understanding, unity and cooperation between the members and other students.
4) To instill national consciousness among its members in order to continue in the assertion of the Filipino people’s rights and well-beings.
5) To render service to the Eastern Visayas region in whichever way the organization can provide.
