SINAG was established in 1968. Its beginnings are traced from the time when the Philippines was facing a national situation. The students of then College of Arts and Sciences deemed the need of a venue to respond to the ongoing call to speak their minds and take a stand through an official student publication; thus the publication was born. The name was a portmanteau of sining and agham, Filipino words for arts and sciences respectively, while the portmanteau itself means ray of light in Filipino.
