Jesus Paolo Tolentino would go on to become the founding president of the UP Photography Society, a.k.a UP OPTICS. The UP Photography Society (UP OPTICS) is a duly recognized university-wide organization of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, committed to the promotion of photography as an art and the establishment of training grounds for the continuous development of its members’ skills. Established seven years ago, it continues to be the leading photography organization in the University.
History
It all started one ‘dark’ afternoon (in the dark room) of the 1st semester of AY 2002-2003, when a group of Film 110 students under Prof. Anne Marie de Guzman became attached to the art of black & white photography. One student, Jesus Paolo Tolentino initiated that, after many satisfying moments of taking and printing photographs in the dark room, why shouldn’t the class start a new organization that would serve as an avenue for photography enthusiasts?
