ABSTRACT

This is a descriptive study of the current situation of the different processes in the film industry of the Philippines; production, distribution, and exhibition in the age of New Media and digital technology. Also, this study tackles the issue of the film medium in decline because of technology.

As unit of analysis, the researcher interviewed people with diverse backgrounds in the film industry. The data gathered undergone qualitative analysis using the concept of Social Shaping of Technology by Mackenzie and Wajcman (1985) which tackles the relationship between technology and society and how these two affect each other. In relation to this, the researcher discussed the relationship of New Media and digital technology to the film industry in the Philippines.

The researcher concluded that the film industry is affected by the changes brought about by the digitalization of cinema and New Media. The Philippine film industry is adapting to these changes to survive.

ABSTRAK

Ang pag-aaral na ito ay tumatalakay sa iba’t ibang proseso sa industriya ng pelikula ng Pilipinas; ang produksyon, distribusyon, at eksibisyon sa panahon ng Bagong Midya at digitalization. Ito rin ay tumatalakay sa isyu ng pagbagsak ng midyum ng pelikula.

Sinuri ng mananaliksik ang mga panayam nito sa mga tao na may iba’t iba at malawak na kaalaman sa industriya ng pelikula. Ang mga nakuhang datos ay muli pang sinuri gamit at konsepto ng Social Shaping of Technology nina Mackenzie at Wajcman (1985) na tumatalakay sa relasyon ng teknolohiya at lipunan at kung paano nito naaapektuhan ang isa’t isa. Kaugnay nito, ang mananaliksik naman ay tatalakayin ang epekto ng Bagong Midya at digitalization sa industriya ng pelikula.

Base sa mga nakuhang datos at pagsusuri nito, ang naging konklusyon ng mananaliksik ay ang industriya ng pelikula sa Pilipinas ay apektado ng mga pagbabagong dulot ng teknolohiyang digital at Bagong Midya. Ang industriya ng pelikula ng Pilipinas ay umaangkop sa mga pagbabagong ito para mapanatili itong buhay.
