Abstract: This study aimed to first, illustrate the general culture of UAAP fans, and, as gendered subjects, determine the differences between male and female fans of the Men’s Basketball Tournament of the amateur basketball league by identifying, describing and analysing first, their reasons for formation and sustenance, and second, their forms of expression and modes of enactment. A total of two (2) male and two (2) female UAAP fans were selected, via a combination of stratified purposeful and criterion sampling, and interviewed. Although exhibiting interest in, above-average knowledge of, attachment to, and contact with a team, individual player or the league as a whole, as well as being highly discriminative of the objects of fandom of others, and attending games frequently, the selected male and female UAAP fans differ in the fanship dimensions they occupy and the order by which factors that contribute to their formation take effect. These differences are more attributed to the societal consensus of gender than biology in itself.
