ABSTRACT: Espino, Charry A. (2015) Double-Time, Dual Roles: The Ethics of Journalists in Performing Public Service and News Coverage in Rescue 5, University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication The study focused on how journalists adjust themselves from being reporters to rescuers at the same time. Through the news program Rescue 5, the researcher aims to know if this kind of news reporting is accepted and should continue. Furthermore, this study examined the advantages and disadvantages of doing charity works on a news program while also defining where journalist should draw the line from being a journalist to a rescuer. The study also included the impact of this type of program to the news industry and how it can affect journalists, media organizations, and the public‟s perspective about the field of journalism. In addition, the study hopes to introduce to the public the new type of journalism wherein they would see reporters doing the job of the rescuers.
