UP Broadcasting Association
We Are Broad Ass
The UP Broadcasting Association, or UP Broad Ass, is a non-stock, non-profit academic organization and student creatives outfit based at the UP College of Mass Communication. We create socially relevant productions, hold events that promote media-related campaigns and advocacies, and handle event coverage for our partners. We manage to inspire and involve the youth in social action.
Since its founding in 1968, Broad Ass has joined the ranks of the more prominent organizations in the university, having produced illustrious names in the industry today such as Tessie Tomas, Loren Legarda, Maryo de los Reyes, Luchi Cruz-Valdes, Ogie Alcasid, Raz de la Torre, Mariz Umali, Chico Garcia, among others
History
Founded in 1968, the UP Broadcasting Association is the brainchild of Kitchie Benedicto and Maria Montelibano in the UP College of Mass Communication. During the tumultuous 70's, at the height of Martial Law, the Assers, as members of the organization are called, staged Dulaang Kapiterya, a series of plays fearlessly satirizing the political conditions of the times. They used the Mass Communication canteen as their theater.
The 80's ushered in the trend of concerts, parties, and fashion shows. Broad Ass was among the pioneers in the fusion of such concepts into one major event.
During the 90's, Broad Ass began producing music videos. It was also during this decade that the Assers hosted the eagerly-awaited dating games during the UP Fair.
In 2010, Broad Ass revamped its branding; and, shifted from staging performances to creating videos as a student production house. Aside from training its members in event production, graphic design, finance, and marketing, the organization also puts emphasis on inculcating members with skills aligned with audio and/or video content and production. They include proficiency in all stages of production, from conceptualization and scriptwriting, to color grading and video editing.
Today, Broad Ass continually lives up to the demands of competence and creativity; and, tightly embraces its tenets of passion, excellence, and glory.

Activities
Broad Ass Productions
Broad Ass Productions, or simply BAP, is the flagship program of the organization, which serves as the venue for the Assers to showcase their talents, both artistic and technical through productions.
20/20: A Projected Vision
One of the biggest events of the organization is 20/20: A Projected Vision, an event kickstarted with a literary contest where two winners get a chance to have their works transformed into short films which culminate in a film screening. College students acts, such as bands and spoken word artists, also get a chance to perform in this youth-oriented event.
ACLE
An acronym for Alternative Classroom Learning Experience, ACLE is a university-wide event in which organizations stage talks and seminars on topics aligned with a theme provided by the University Student Council. UP Broad Ass participates in the ACLE once a year, during the first semester.
Past ACLEs have included, "Ang Teacher Ko, Celebrity!" featuring Ramon Bautista, Maryo J. de los Reyes, and Jim Paredes; "So Why Fi?" a talk on internet advocacy, featuring Mikey Bustos, Kevin Vitug, Arianne Serafico, and Yoshke Dimen; "Komiko 3-in1-" with Manix Abrera, Jesie Castro, Jess Abrera; and, "It MASA Been Love" an interactive live talkshow on writing for the popular audience with Suzette Doctolero, Jason Lim, Benedict Mique, and Rod Marmol, hosted by Jaze Dela Cruz.
Broad Ass Week
To celebrate its many successful projects for the year, UP Broad Ass organizes a week filled with events for its members, the college, as well as the rest of the university.
Past activities held during KNOWING NO BOUNDS: Broad Ass Week 48 included a launch for our infinity-mirror exhibit (which can still be seen in the college) called INFINITE, and the Maskom Free Food Fair, CORONA. The week continued with REACH: Appreciation Day, SPECTRUM: Community Workshop, and capped off with the anniversary party, HIGH DEF.
