The Philippines has been shaken by several celebrity sex video scandals over the last decade. The internet has been pivotal in the proliferation and coverage of such video scandals. Because of the discourse catalyzed by scandal coverage, this research seeks to answer the question, “How do online news media present people involved in scandals?” Specifically, this research problematizes how men and women are represented in the coverage of famous Philippine celebrity sex scandals. This study deconstructed the manner by which celebrities are represented in sex scandals in the Philippine setting.

This study employed the critical discourse analysis (CDA) as its framework. At its core, CDA aims to uncover the ideologies hidden in texts. Through CDA, the researcher analyzed the language used to represent an identity of a celebrity involved in the scandal. The researcher analyzed the lexical choices used in news articles of different online news outfits. This study focused on the reportage of four celebrity sex video scandals namely, Katrina Halili and Hayden Kho scandal, Chito Miranda and Neri Naig scandal, Wally Bayola and Yosh Rivera scandal, and the Paolo Bediones scandal.
