Old Instruction for archival purposes only: How to upload a thesis on iskwiki
NOTICE: This page is no longer current. This is just an archived copy. More current instruction on how to upload a thesis on iskwiki is here.
Theses may be archived on iskWiki. For thesis uploaders, please remove personal information that you feel uncomfortable sharing publicly. Readership may also be limited to those with UP Webmail accounts by emailing such request to the iskWiki administrator. Follow the Revised Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the University of the Philippines System AND your own academic unit's policy on online thesis archiving. The Office of the President, in particular, has issued the memo on Public Access to Theses, Dissertations and Defense Proceedings for immediate and strict compliance. It contains a sample cover page for your thesis. A supplementary Guidelines for Public Access to Theses and Dissertations has also been issued by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development.
With no-cut-and-paste, no-print, no-download features
- Step 1: print or convert your thesis into pdf format. On Mac OS, open your word processing application, go to Print, click on PDF and then Save as PDF. On Windows, you may use Bullzip Free PDF Printer.[1]
- Step 2: make a flash flipbook out of your pdf file using free Codebox[2]or Pressmo or a non-free app like aXmag or Macromedia Flashpaper.[3]
- Step 3: zip or compress the contents of the resulting directory and name it titleofmythesis.zip, where "titleofmythesis" is your thesis title without space between words.[4]
- your zip file structure should be similar to this:
[titleofmythesis.zip] + + +-----[data] + +-------[pages] + + + +-----1.swf + + + +-----2.swf + + + +-----(last page).swf + +-----index.html + + +-----swfobject.js + + + +-----log.txt + + +-----book.swf
IMPORTANT! Make sure that your zip file would contain your flipbook as shown above. Uploading a folder containing all of your files instead of the above structure, would result in an error.
- Step 4: with the use of your UP Webmail account, upload the compressed file using the DILC Uploader.
- Step 5: create a cover page using this procedure and link the zipped file from there.[5]

PDF uploads vs. Flipbook uploads of theses
- Flipbook uploads are more secure because they do not allow direct cut/copy/paste/download options to thesis.
- PDF uploads are easier to share because users can download a copy of them.
- For security reasons, "PDF only" uploads will reflect only after a system check has been completed.

Notes
- ↑ You may also use any of the following free applications: Open Office, PDFCreator, PrimoPDF, PDF Printer. Using other methods may bloat the pdf output unnecessarily.
- ↑ If you're using the Codebox site AND your pdf file is larger than 10Mb, split your file into files smaller than 10Mb. The resulting directories should be merged, especially the ones under the subdirectory data/pages. The sequence of the pages should follow those in the thesis, thus filenames under data/pages that come from the subsequent uploads to the Codebox site must be renamed accordingly.
DO NOT use a password protected pdf on Codebox.
- ↑ Another non-free alternative is FlipPDF. There is no size restriction for Macromedia Flashpaper and FlipPDF.
If all else fail, contact DILC for help.
- ↑ If your thesis title is too long, we recommend cutting it to just a maximum of six words, for the sole purpose of naming your directory to be uploaded on iskwiki.
- ↑ As soon as your thesis flipbook gets mounted on iskwiki, your zipped file will be deleted by DILC staff.
- ↑ You may also use any of the following free applications: Open Office, PDFCreator, PrimoPDF, PDF Printer.
