Department of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design

The Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design (CTID) Department administers the Bachelor of Science in Clothing Technology (BSCT), the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BSID) and the Master of Interior Design (MID) academic programs.

Individuals who are interested to pursue careers in fashion design, clothing production, pattern drafting, fashion marketing and merchandising, fashion illustration, product development and crafts design, the Bachelor of Science in Clothing Technology could be the right program for them.

History

The Department of Clothing, Textiles & Interior Design (CTID), formerly known as the Department of Clothing, Textiles & Related Arts, started as one of the four Departments established under the U.P. College of Home Economics in 1961.

The current academic programs under the CTID Department are the Bachelor of Science in Clothing Technology, Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and Master of Interior Design.

The Bachelor of Science in Clothing Technology evolved from the Bachelor of Science in Home Economics major in Clothing, Home Furnishings and Craft Merchandising created in 1965 while the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design originated from the Bachelor of Science in Home Economics major in Interior Design in 1968. The Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) was established in 1971 as a joint program between the College of Home Economics and the College of Architecture. The Bachelor of Science in Clothing Technology was implemented in 1975.

In 1997, the Master of Interior Design was approved in the University Council. It is the only masteral program in Interior Design in the whole country which serves as the Department’s response to the teaching requirement in tertiary education.

The year 2000 marked the change of name of the Department from the Department of Clothing, Textiles & Related Arts (CTRA) to the Department of Clothing, Textiles & Interior Design (CTID). The change of name was facilitated in order to recognize the professional identity of interior design as a discipline in the College as well as in the University. Similarly, in 2001, the title of the Bachelor of Interior Design was changed to Bachelor of Science in Interior Design to address the requirements of the Commission on Higher Education as well as the Republic Act 8534, regulating the profession of Interior Design.
