Paglantaw is a Manobo term that suggests vigilance and watchfulness, a glimpse of the past and present. The exhibition includes paintings of Carlito Camahalan Amalla that deals with the contemporary visual translations of living musical traditions. He fuses his performative aesthetics gained from his Manobo cultural background and Kontra-GaPi (Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino) into the flat visual form of acrylic on canvas. The figures include detailed resonance of dress, superimposing tradition and present musical practice. The flattened background translates sound and musical movements into colors and patters. The works for the exhibition resonates the play of aural and visual, ingrained with the amalgamation of indigenous and cosmopolitan experience.
