The UP Engineering Society (UP Eng'gSoc) was founded on August 26, 1996 by a group of students who envisioned an organization that would allow membership from all departments and institutes of the College of Engineering. This gave birth to the first engineering-wide student organization in the university which aimed to produce inter-department cooperation, promote college unity, and provide the perfect environment for learning, self-improvement and service.

The main goal of the founders was to have an organization which built bridges and broke barriers within the college; and through the UP Engineering Society, this vision was realized.

The UP Engineering Society is an organization made of talented individuals and passionate people. For fifteen years, it has continued to foster and promote camaraderie among various departments and has produced several engineers who have gained broader perspectives on engineering as a profession and as a form of dignified service.

Activities

For the past years, the organization has successfully sponsored its own “first-of-its-kind” annual events. To mention a few:

  • Alay sa Inhinyero – a yearly recognition night for the outstanding faculty in the college, who have showcased excellence and passion in their chosen fields, considering their teaching effectiveness, research experiences, and service contributions to the college;
  • Acoustic Jameng’g – first held in August 2001, is a college-wide acoustic band competition coupled with a concert, featuring recognized and distinguished bands and celebrities in and out of the campus;
  • Eng’g Soccer – a soccer tournament presented with a twist and held in support of the Engineering Week handled by the Engineering Student Council; and
  • Engineering Symposium - aims to promote the different fields of engineering to high school students and the career paths that could branch out from these to encourage them to pursue one.

Through these innovative events, the UP Engineering Society has lived up to its name and motto. Building bridges and breaking barriers – this had been the vision of the founders of the organization, and this will remain to be the ultimate goal of the members of the same organization.
