Spearheading the events is the BrainMEsh High: Inter-High School Math & Physics Quiz Show followed in back to back fashion by PSME Month’s premier events ME Students’ Convergence: Seminars, Career and Company Talks and BrainMEsh: Inter-University National ME Quiz Show. Daylong merriment succeeded these exciting events with PSME Cup: Inter-University Sports Festival.

Culminating the month-long festivities was the PSME Ball 2011: Grand Alumni Homecoming & Culmination Night where members of the organization took time to relax and immerse in their success as well as get to know the alumni of the organization and further strengthen the ties that bind the organization as a whole.

BRAINMESH INTER-HIGH 2011

BrainMEsh Inter-High 2011 Logo

PSME-UPSU kicked off the month long celebration of PSME Month with its youngest event, BrainMEsh High: Inter-High School Math & Physics Quiz Show. Needless to say, the event pits varying schools and their respective teams against each other, every student displaying his/her potential in the field of Math and Physics.

There were three (3) rounds in the event held at the P&G Room of Melchor Hall, University of the Philippines, Diliman. The first round was the Preliminary Round where students were to answer individually written examinations prepared beforehand. The top 10 teams that amassed the highest scores gained entry to the Semi-Final Round. Students finally work as a team in this round, answering questions in increasing levels of difficulty in an effort to make it to the Final round.

The Final Round has a similar feel to the Wildcard Round, albeit with exciting difference. Questions were given randomly (only the number of the item is flashed), with no regard to its difficulty (as opposed to the wildcard format) so the students really had to be prepared for whatever the question may be. An added bonus to the round though is that the team who answered the question correctly gets to pick the number for the next question.

The event was participated by12 schools and 19 teams. Chiang Kai Shek Team 1 won 3rd place, Philippine Science High School Team 1 for 2nd place and Manila Science High School Team 2 for 1st place. Kenneth Co from Philippine Science High School gained the top score in the Mathematics Preliminary Round and Ramon Marquez, also from Philippine Science High School , was the top scorer of the Science Preliminary Round.

The event was highly deemed a success. In addition to testing out the mettle of high school students, one of its aims was to be able to promote the field and industry of mechanical engineering to them and show how attractive a career in the field is.

BRAINMESH INTER-UNIVERSITY 2011

BrainMEsh Inter-University 2011 Logo

BrainMEsh: Inter-University National Mechanical Engineering Quiz Show promotes critical thinking, team work and sportsmanship among others. It also serves as an evaluation of how deep the participants’ knowledge with their chosen field, Mechanical Engineering.

This year BrainMEsh has been bigger and tougher. 53 teams from 20 different schools battle it out to become the new BrainMEsh Inter-University Champion.

The competition is composed of three (3) rounds, the Peliminary phase, the Semi-Fnal phase and the Final phase. The Preliminary round is composed of a written exam answered individually. The top ten teams that amassed the highest scores from their respective members advance to the semi-final phase. From there, they start working with their teams through three rounds of varying difficulty. The top five teams enter the Final phase.

The Final phase had a similar format to the how the final round of BrainMEsh High. Teams have no idea how difficult the question would be, and the team that got the point in the previous question gets to pick the number of the next one. Questions ranged from anything related to the field of Mechanical Engineering from HVAC to Mechanisms, the students really had to dig deep in their vast knowledge of the field.

The ten teams that advanced to the Semi-Finals were as follows: Batangas State University Team 2, University of Batangas Team 1, Sorsogon State College Team 1, Bicol University Team 1, Camarines Norte State College Team 1, Technological University of the Philippines-Manila Team 1, Southern Luzon State University Team 2, Adamson University Team 1, University of the East-Manila Team 2, Bulacan State University Team 1.

Adamson University Team 1 took the Third Place and University of the East- Manila Team 2 took the Second Place. The new BrainMEsh Inter-University Champion is Bicol University Team 1.

The competition proved once more that Mechanical Engineering in the Philippines is highly competent and worthy of recognition. The students themselves are a testament to what the industry can achieve in the country.
