Kuya, kuya, paano mo sila hinulma?: A discourse analysis on how Pinoy Big Brother molds its housemates to be marketable celebrities.
ABSTRACT
This research describes how Pinoy Big Brother molds its housemates to be marketable celebrities. To provide a good background in this research, different accounts of celebrity formation were reviewed by the researcher.
Using Vincent Mosco’s Political Economy of Communication as primary theory, this academic endeavor shows how the housemates are molded by Pinoy Big Brother to be consumed by the audience in the future.
Discourse analysis was used by the researcher to review and analyze the forty-one (41) episodes of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition I to answer the research problem and objectives that the researcher formulated.
The findings of this study revealed that Pinoy Big Brother gives tasks, challenges and activities to its housemates to maximize exposure to the televiewers. Beauty, talent, appeal of the ordinary, and charisma are taken into consideration. Overall, the research found out that Pinoy Big Brother plays a vital role in molding its housemates to be celebrities for audience consumption.

Ang pananaliksik na ito ay sumasalamin kung paano hinuhubog ng Pinoy Big Brother ang kanyang mga housemates upang maging patok na mga artista. Para magkaroon ng magandang kaalaman sa pananaliksik na ito, iba’t ibang klaseng pag-aaral sa pagbuo sa isang artista ang binasa at inalam ng mananaliksik.
Gamit ang Political Economy of Communication ni Vincent Mosco bilang pangunahing teorya, natukoy dito kung paano ihinanda ng Pinoy Big Brother ang kanyang housemates para sa kanilang mga tagatangkilik.
Ginamit ng mananaliksik ang discourse analysis para analisahin ang apatnapu’t isang (41) episodes ng Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition I para sagutin ang research problem at objectives na kanyang ginawa.
Sa pag-aaral na ito, natuklasan na ang Pinoy Big Brother ay nagbibigay ng mga gawain at pagsubok sa housemates para mas lalo itong makilala ng mga manonood. Ang ganda, talento, appeal of the ordinary, at karisma ng housemates ay binibigyang halaga. Samakatuwid, ang Pinoy Big Brother ay may mahalagang papel sa paghubog sa kanyang housemates para sa mga manonood ng programa.
