An Audience Reception Study of the Indonesian Radio Program, The Dandees

Abstract: This thesis aims to study the trend of what and how the Indonesian audiences receive Prambors 102.2 FM Radio’s afternoon program, The Dandees. In Indonesia, FM radio still manages to stay alive at this modern age where most youths get their information and entertainment from smart phones, and it is clear that from the number of Indonesian youths ages 15 to 29 years old, there are those who still make use of FM radio to fulfill their needs.

Prambors 102.2 FM Radio prides itself to be a radio station that caters to the Indonesian youth by playing songs that are currently ‘in’ and by airing shows that are youth-centric, such as The Dandees; which airs every weekday from four to eight in the evening and is hosted by Dimas Danang and Imam Darto, also known by their on air names: Mas Danang and Mas Darto (Kuya Danang and Kuya Darto). With that said, this study used qualitative responses from surveys of Indonesian youths to determine the trend of how the audiences receive the program based on the elements of the show. The researcher related the findings to Blumler and Katz’s Uses and Gratification Theory.
