May the Labor Force Be with You: A Study on the Presentation of Labor in the ABS-CBN Internal Job Market (IJM) Reportage and Kabuhayang Swak na Swak. Unpublished Undergraduate Thesis, University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication The broadcast media industry is rarely seen as business when the production of its products and services rely heavily on its human resources. This study has analyzed labor as presented in the ABS-CBN Internal Job Market reportage and Kabuhayang Swak na Swak. The packaging of media workers in news and workers in livelihood programs was studied to see the viewpoint of media on labor. Political economy with reference to the propaganda model has been utilized as the guiding theory. Online news articles have been examined with qualitative content analysis while textual analysis has been applied to video reportage of IJM and specific clips from Kabuhayang Swak na Swak. The study has found out that labor is presented with reference to these two groups: owners and workers. Workers are marginalized in news articles and programs as they are reduced to the background. Furthermore, the importance of workers in the production of services and materials is not seen. In contrast, owners and people of authority are given prominence in in both coverage and television episodes.
