UP Cinema
Overview
UP CINEMA aims to bring film to the frontiers. Established on the 25th of February 2004, UP CINEMA is a university-wide film organization based in the College of Mass Communication. The organization is born out of the desire to learn more about film and all its aspects outside just what is taught in the confines of the classroom, including the development of the skills needed in an actual film production and in the critiquing of films.
UP CINEMA was founded by four film students: Charliebebs Gohetia, Dohna Sarmiento, Nicole Arguelles, and Davene Venturanza. The organization is composed of students from many of the different colleges, schools and institutions of UP Diliman including the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Home Economics, and even the College of Science among many others. The organization’s Tambayan is located at Plaridel Hall, 1101, Quezon City.

APPLICATION WORKSHOPS
Application workshops are held every semester for the applicants and the members of UP Cinema, which aims to develop the skills needed in an actual film production.
PILING OBRANG VIDYO
U.P. CINEMA's Piling Obrang Vidyo or P.O.V. is an inter-school short video festival that is supported by different participating schools as well as film practitioners in both the academe and in the industry. Having first started in the year 2004 with a minimal audience and only a handful of entries, P.O.V. has now become a much awaited event by a slew of ever-participating schools including New Era University, Miriam College, and the Ateneo. Each year, the event gathers an estimated 600 people to its theater, the Cine Adarna, to view the best-of-the-best short films of colleges from around the Philippines.
KONTRA: THE ALTERNATIVE FILM PROJECT
Kontra is a mini film festival for the members of U.P. Cinema with the objective of developing their creativity and ingenuity in filmmaking. Participants are tasked to make a film based on particular “ingredients.” A forum composed of established filmmakers and film critics are gathered to critique all the films that are produced through the process.
