Request for Comments on a Project: Low-power FM Transmission on Campus
Project Description
A network of strategically placed low-power (about 0.1W to 15W) FM transmitters on the UP Diliman campus; source content is streamed from a DILC server. The audio stream is also available online. Initial contents: demo tracks from campus bands, music education program, music recitals, stream of important campus academic events, campus bulletin.
Potentially this cost-effective (cheap?) community-based FM "station" can complement DZUP, the official AM station of the University, and commercial radio stations. Potential FM audience: people with FM-ready mobile phones, offices with radios.
The system will also be used to prototype a network that can be used during disaster or crisis situations.
Voluteers
We need volunteers for transmission, infrastructure maintenance, and programming. DJs, marketing specialists, student orgs, aspiring bands are also welcome.
