Abstract

Labrador, Arvin Reno A. (2016). Tatwa, Unpublished Undergraduate Thesis, University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication, 2016.

Tatwa is about the complexities in Filipino familial relationships wherein duties to family members almost always have a gray area. The limits of when and where such duties begin and end is always vague.

Two theories play a big part in this film, Bowen's Family Systems and Festinger's Cognitive Dissonance. The Family Systems theory dictates how and why family member's act in such a way and stick to their roles while Cognitive Dissonance describes how individuals have different, and sometimes violent, approaches to accepting a system of belief different from their own.
