He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Major in Political Science in 1998, from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. In 2001, he completed the required coursework units in the Master of Arts in Political Science Program, however, proceeded to work as a full time faculty at the University of Asia and the Pacific (2002-2004). From 2005-2010 he was a full time faculty of the Political Science Program, Department of Social Science at the University of the Philippines-Manila. In 2010, he graduated with a Masters degree in Public Management from the University of the Philippines-Manila.

Apart from his engagements in the academe, Prof. Jalton Taguibao is a Research and Project Manager at the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability-East Asia and the Pacific. He also serves as policy consultant, lecturer, and trainer at the Development Academy of the Philippines, the National Commission for Culture and Arts and the National Defense College of the Philippines.


In March of 2010, Prof. Taguibao resigned from UP Manila to pursue further studies. He was accepted in the PhD in Political Science Program at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. Upon his return to Diliman, he served as Senior Lecturer in Political Science during the first semester of academic year 2010-2011 and became  a full-time assistant professor the semester after. Prof. Taguibao is currently a PhD Candidate in Political Science. His proposed dissertation is about the interfaces between policy-makers, business groups and technology developers in the agenda-setting and formulation of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
Prof. Taguibao is currently a PhD Candidate in Political Science completing his dissertation research on Renewable Energy Policy. He has also previously completed postgraduate courses at the University of Sao Paolo in Brazil, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany.
 
He has already published two peer-reviewed academic journal articles on Renewable Energy development in the Philippines (2010) and on the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 (2012).
 
 
Aside from his academic activities, Asst. Prof. Jalton Taguibao is also a musician, arranger, and composer. He also engages in events production.
