Abstract

The study determined the reasons and motivations behind the dual FM-AM programming of the radio station RGMA DYRU Super Radyo Kalibo 92.9 FM in Kalibo, Aklan. This programming strategy was then compared with the programming strategies of the other AM and FM radio stations in Kalibo. Also, the study determined the guidelines on programming imposed by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP). For these objectives, the In-Depth Interview method was used. In addition, an audience research is part of the study. It described the exposure of radio listeners in Kalibo to RGMA DYRU’s programming, and their preferences on certain aspects of the programming. The results of the study revealed that RGMA DYRU employed a dual FM-AM programming to gratify the listeners’ needs to be informed and entertained. The station personnel also believed that the listeners were not particular with the band, whether it is AM or FM, as long as the radio station offers what they want to hear. In addition, it was found out that the NTC and the KBP do not impose any guidelines on the programming content of radio stations that confine them to an AM or FM format. This fact has led RGMA DYRU to implement the said programming strategy. The results of the descriptive survey revealed that most of the respondents listened to RGMA DYRU’s banner program, E-eitsahan. This program was favored far more than the station’s other programs. Most of the respondents also preferred the program’s main anchor, timeslot and format.
