"Great Ideas at UP" Project is a series of activities designed to highlight a diversity of great ideas at the University. One of the major activities is the "Great Ideas at UP" Symposium.
Comments and suggestions are most welcome. Email them to dilc@up.edu.ph or, once logged in at iskwiki using your UP Webmail account, write them under the "Discussion" tab of this page.
Symposium
The "Great Ideas at UP" Symposium showcases top five (5) UP professors from different fields who will talk (for 10 minutes each) about ideas, subjects, research projects they are most passionate about. These professors are to be chosen by a popular vote on DILC's University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLe). Anybody with a UP Webmail account can register on UVLe.
The Symposium serves many ends:
- to celebrate "great ideas"
- to further promote UVLe (as a platform of interactive learning) among its constituents
- to introduce diverse disciplines to the larger public
- to provide an opportunity for UP professors to share their passions to a diverse audience.
To ensure popular support or wide participation, DILC will seek help from colleges, departments, student organizations, sponsors, and media.
Coinciding with DILC's 7th Anniversary, the Symposium will be held on October 6, 2010, 2pm at Malcolm Theater, College of Law.
Selection Rules
The top 5 faculty members shall be chosen with these rules:
- Through UVLe, anyone with a UP Webmail account can nominate professors who are thought to be good at articulating ideas in their respective academic disciplines.
- The nominee must currently be teaching at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
- One may vote for a maximum of five nominees.
- A maximum of 2 "winners" can come from the same academic cluster.
- No two "winners" can come from the same department or college.
- A month prior to the closing of the online voting, contenders for the top 5 professors shall be informed of their possible inclusion in the panel of faculty members who will serve as resource speakers at the Symposium. On or before the seventh day after receipt of notice, these contenders are to express firm commitment to serve as resource speakers, in case they get to be in the top 5. Without such expression of commitment, the organizers of the Symposium will drop the names of concerned individuals from the rooster of nominees.
