History

UP Ibalon is a socio-cultural organization and the only regional organization of Bicolano students based in the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Eighteen Bicolano students grouped themselves and with the common vision, formed UP Ibalon, a name inspired by the Bicol epic Handiong, where a great name once ruled a kingdom called Ibalon. On December 1, the ratification of UP Ibalon's constitution and by-laws was held at the Parks and Wildlife National Center in Quezon City.

On January 14, 1975, UP Ibalon was given official recognition by UP Diliman. After initial consolidation activities, the Ibaloneys started social oriented activities and began to get involved in off-campus social work. Of these are its assistance extended to flood victims in Mindanao and Central Luzon. UP Ibalon spearheaded the formation of an alliance of regional or varsitarian organizations in UP Diliman, the UP Sanlahi.

For forty years now, UP Ibalon is committed in promoting loyalty, truth, solidarity, and social, cultural, economic and political consciousness among students. Empowered by idealism, nationalism and youthful vigor, the organization is lofty grounded on its commitment to eradicate ignorance in every aspect of the society.

As the group faces another age of political enigmas and cultural trials, its adherence to the promotion of loyalty, freedom and Bicolano pride will intensify.

Realizing their role in a universal system we call life, UP Ibalon will stand undaunted. The organization will branch out and grow in faith.
