This study seeks to find patterns in the programming of Arirang, South Korea’s official global TV, and to discover how programmers create a television that is intended for globalization.

This study provides an analysis of the January 2012 programming of Arirang from Monday to Sunday. Through creating categories for the programs of Arirang, this study was able to make a framework in analyzing the patterns in the distribution of the programs in the programming of Arirang. This study is guided by the concept of the role of the international broadcasting in being a tool for globalization.

Through content analysis, this study found out that Arirang prioritizes the promotion of Korea’s traditional culture the most, and the promotion of multicultural understanding the least. In the scheduling of its programs, a big portion of its 24-hour broadcast are just replays of 16 programs under the traditional culture promotion category, 5 programs under the modern culture promotion, 4 programs under the country information category, and three programs under the multicultural understanding category.

Arirang is a tool for the cultural globalization of Korea through spreading Korean cultural information across national borders, and by involving non-Koreans in its programs as the program host or participant.
