History

The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers University of the Philippines Student Unit (PSME-UPSU) is a duly recognized University and College based organization for and by UP Mechanical Engineering students.

Our vision is to promote academic excellence, develop harmonious relationships with other organizations and student units, serve fellow students and the community as a whole, and develop the members’ talents and potentials for the better understanding of their field and its relation to actual situations.

It was founded in 1993 with the name Samahan ng mga Inhinyerong Mekanikal (SIM), which was changed to its current name after gaining recognition from the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers – Quezon City Chapter in 2001.

PSME-UPSU has greatly improved after its rebirth in 2006, its activities in the university were executed successfully and its events outside were recognized by other student units. Now, PSME-UPSU is one of the most active participants in engineering-wide and university-wide affairs.

PSME-UPSU holds a variety of events spanning from academic activities such as BrainMEsh: Inter-University ME Quiz Show and ME Student’s Convergence, to athletic and recreational activities such as PSME Cup and the PSME-UPSU Ball and Alumni Homecoming.

Recently, the organization inaugurated its Alumni Association and started the Send ME to School scholarship program.

During the College of Engineering’s Engineering Week, PSME-UPSU hosts several events such as Cartoonlitan, Freak Show and Song WritEng’g.

With its members and alumni here and abroad, PSME-UPSU has grown steadily and improved progressively, garnering significant achievements not only in the fields of engineering, but also in other fields of expertise.

Truly, it is an organization aiming for excellence.
