Abstract

This research paper examines the fan art production processes of three local Sherlock fan artists, as well as their experiences in the Sherlock fandom within the photo-sharing/social networking website Tumblr, in order to explore the ways in which fandom functions as an emerging artworld. By putting forward the notion of transformation as re-creation, this paper dissects how fandom in general, and fan artists in particular, destabilizes assumptions about ownership, originality, authorship and centrality in art.

By putting forward the notion of transformation as re-creation, this paper dissects how fandom in general, and fan artists in particular, destabilizes assumptions about ownership, originality, authorship and centrality in art.
