The president of U.P. is Dr. Emerlinda R. Román , a professor of business administration and the chancellor of U.P. Diliman prior to her election as president. Roman is the first female president of the University of the Philippines. She led the university in the celebration of its centennial in 2008. She was elected in 2005 and will serve until 2011.
The current president of U.P. is Mr. Alfredo E. Pascual. He is the first President to be appointed by the U.P. Board under a new charter, which was enacted in 2008 (U.P.’s centennial year) and which designated U.P. as the national university. Just before his appointment as U.P. President, Alfredo was the President of the U.P. Alumni Association and a member of the U.P. Board of Regents. He assumed office in February 2011 for a six-year term.
