KAYA Green Band got its name from the word “kaya”. Kaya is a word with many meanings. In Tagalog it translates as ”we can”. In Pali, the ancient language spoken during the lifetime of Sidharta Gotama (Buddha), it meant ”body”. It’s also the name of a song and album title from Bob Marley. Most appealingly, in the ancient Filipino language (Alibatha), it means “susi ng kapatiran” or “key to brother/sisterhood”. It’s meaning is as diverse as the members of the band:
rudy'abu rudz'del rosario: lead vocals/acoustic guitar
robert'bobk' kovach: vocals/kubing/percs
lawrence ;lwrnz 'zamora: lead guitar
egay fernandez: guitar/vocals
ivo'ayboman' cruz: udu/percs\hegalong\vocals
jovezh nose flute/djeredu/percs
hugh belangel: bass\ vocals
lucas'lukesky'del rosario: rap/vocals
salim assad: vocals/djeredu
sam nixon harmonica/kahon
xavier: bonggos
eric lorber/paolo rosero wind inst.
ryan caraan/ferdz dapula: drums/percs
remy marie del rosario back-up vocals
All band members are united in their love for Mother Earth and caring for our planet.
kgb's first ever recording was in sept 1999, when the bros recorded 'alamin' at total recall studio in makati. in 2006 kgb kicked off it's gigging adventures at the australian embassy in manila for a "clean up the philippines" opening event held there.
kgb joined it's first music festival at the ninoy aquino park in qc in 2009 at the maharlika arts and music festival. kgb had it's first international stint on april 22, 2009 at the ruamrudee international school in bkk thailand for the celebrate earth benefit cocert there. then followed by the unep sponsored ozone day celbration in sept at the same school. kgb opened for pen-pen band at the 110th "araw ng kalayaan" (independence day) celebration at the 'concert at the park' at the rizal park in manila on june 12, 2011.
