* [[University Health Service]] Every employee of the University is entitled to health services from start of employment until separation from the service. The University Health Service (UHS) engages in preventive-promotive activities such as pre-employment medical examination and chest X-ray, physical-medical examinations for other purposes (e.g. scholarship abroad, travel, permanency, pre-natal and well-baby check-ups, and dental examination). Except for pre-employment medical examination and chest x-ray, all these are provided free of charge to all UP employees. The Health Service has the capabilities to handle primary to secondary medical cases on an in-patient basis. Out-patient services include general out-patient clinic, dental clinic, nutrition clinic and specialty clinics (secondary care). Consultation is free in the first three clinics. Full-pledged specialists provide secondary care on an out-patient basis at the specialty clinics and UP employees who avail themselves of such services are charged consultation fess at discounted rates, kept below the going rates of comparable private specialty clinics. The Health Service's Emergency room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; its services including transport (ambulance) are intended EXCLUSIVELY FOR URGENT AND EMERGENCY CASES ONLY. The University Health Service has the facilities and competence to fully manage primary to secondary medical and surgical emergency cases; more serious and complicated ones are given emergency treatment at the UHS and are then referred out to bigger and better equipped hospitals. Medical ancillary services are provided by the pharmacy, radiology and medical laboratory sections with the last two sections offering services to mandated clients at University-subsidized rates. If you wish to have your dependent children and/or parents avail of the health services provided by the UHS, you need to register their names at the Records Section of the UHS within the first half of January each year. The schedule of billings for the various health services are indicated in the University Health Service Schedule of charges. The University Health Service should not extend to retirees the same privileges enjoyed by those in active service, including annual physical examination. Such privileges, however, are not extended to the dependents of the retirees. Furthermore, employees of the Philippine General Hospital are entitled to 100% discount if confined at infirmary rooms or 30% discount if confined at payward or private rooms. PGH employees do not pay for the cost of formulary medicine available at the PGH pharmacy. On the other hand, University employees who are confined at the PGH infirmary are entitled to 50% discount on room and 30% discount on diagnostic examination expenses. However, if they are confined at the payward, they are entitled to 25% discount on room and 25% discount on cost of diagnostic examination. University employees not working at the PGH have to pay for the cost of medication.
