This study analyzes chinadaily.com.cn, chinapost.com.tw, inquirer.net and rappler.com’s coverage of the May 9, 2013 Taiwanese fisherman shooting incident for the period of May 9 to December 31, 2013 through a content analysis of 177 articles collated from the news websites’ archives. It also determined selected Filipino-Chinese students’ perception of the Philippine government based on media’s coverage of the incident through an online survey of 100 Filipino-Chinese students from  Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines Diliman.
	
Data from the content analysis showed that media coverage of the issue was, on average, prominently covered. Furthermore, there is minimal bias in terms of headline language and photo use and in the tone used in structuring the stories. Also, sourcing of the article, getting data for article and quote selection showed majority are balanced.
	
In addition, data from the survey showed that perception of the Philippine government during the height of the issue and at present is mostly negative. However, a variety of factors, excluding the May 9, 2013 shooting incident, affected the respondents’ perception like issues on corruption, crisis management, and poverty.
