Abstract Agwanta tells the story of an out lesbian couple, Julia and Karla, who are forced to go back in the closet at a bachelorette party, before realizing that asserting their relationship doesn’t require anyone else’s approval. All night long, they kept their true feelings from the scrutiny of people around them. However, at the end of the night, they both walk out of the party, finally owning up to their relationship. The film exhibits the importance of self-assertion as key to having a healthy relationship. It also explores the dynamics of a closeted lesbian relationship, the fears and uncertainties of being in one. Lopez, A.C.P. (2015). Agwanta.
