Fashioning the Blogs: Fashion-Blog-Viewing Habits of 100 Students from Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines Diliman and University of Santo Tomas

ABSTRACT

Many of the existing articles and books on blogging focus on the blogger's point of view rather than the audience. But like any other medium, blogs can only be effective if they are relevant to people's lives. The study focuses on what readers consider as important aspects of a successful fashion blog.

Three methods were used: a semi-structured survey, content analysis and interviews. Among the one hundred (100) 16 to 22 year-old female respondents from ADMU, DLSU, UPD and UST, 83 mentioned that they read fashion blogs.  The top site that was regularly visited by the respondents was Lookbook, followed by Chictopia and The Sartorialist.  The three were included in the thirty-five (35) fashion blogs content- analyzed. Interviews with five fashion bloggers supported the survey results which showed that photos are important in creating effective blogs.

The researcher concluded that successful fashion blogs are online social networks. These blogs are regularly updated, show the latest fashion trends through good quality photos, and encourage viewers to visit other fashion blog sites. 

Several recommendations were also given, such as widening the age range to be studied, increasing the sample size, and using other research methods such as focus group discussions or case studies.
