“Overdrive” tells the story of a man who is forced to face his responsibilities as a son for the first time through an unexpected trip. On the road, his shattered memories with his father hunt his present self and along the way he meets a boy who eventually shows reflections of his past self.
The film explores on human’s emotional condition and how it is affected by a circumstance and vice versa. When a man carries with him an emotional baggage through out his journey in life, it impedes him from dealing with his present situation. This can also be the reason why sometimes, he becomes distant from the world.
The film functions as a representation of the psychoanalysis theory and its concept of the human psychosexual development. The story underlies on the emotional journey of a man along the road of loss, change, and forgiveness until he reaches his destination: his self.
