Love-an o Bawi: Negotiation Dynamics of Low, Middle and High Income Filipino Families Regarding Children’s Involvement in Romantic Relationships, Unpublished Undergraduate Thesis, University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication. <br /> <br /> Abstract:<br /> This thesis examines the negotiation dynamics between Filipino parents and their young adult children and compares and contrasts the approaches of low, middle and high income families regarding the children’s involvement in romantic relationships. The researchers profiled the informants according to their socio-economic status, specifically their highest educational attainment, monthly family income and current occupation. Parents were asked to describe their conversations with their children and vice versa regarding romantic relationships. Through eighteen (18) focus interviews, the researchers identified the different negotiation styles and dynamics of the families based on Baxter and Montgomery’s Relational Dialectics Theory.
