SPOTLIGHT is a film following the mind and reality of Graciela, a self-conscious 20-year-old teenager. As she strangely moves back and forth from the confines of her home to the claustrophobic public jeepney, she gets overwhelmed by her perceived paradox - of being invisible to one and too visible to others. Driven by anxiety, she starts moving to what she believes is the ideal rhythm of the world, forging herself in a manner that she believes to be acceptable.

This film focuses on the norms imposed by society and the pressure individuals put on themselves to meet these expectations and acceptance. SPOTLIGHT uses the panopticon theory as a framework, presenting excessive self-regulation caused by perceived gazes to amplify the destructive and oppressive repercussions it brings. It also highlights how observation is a way of objectifying and controlling the subject.

The film is also an allegory to Marxism and the political opinion and criticism of the filmmaker on a misgoverned capitalist society. The visual narrative intends to show wealth inequality between classes, exploitation and subtle oppression of the working class, and becoming victims or slaves to the system.
