The University of the Philippines Babaylan is the leading gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (lgbt) students' support group in all campuses of the State University.

==Advocacy==

UP Babaylan is an organization anchored on the belief that all persons should be equal regardless of race, nationality, religion, sex, or sexual orientation. The organization is aware of the state of marginalization of homosexuals in the university, in particular, and the country, in general, instituting activities aimed at fostering social acceptance of homosexuals. The Organization aims to serve as the medium through which rights and welfare of homosexual students are advanced and defended. The Organization unites with the various sectors of the university and the country in pursuit of a humane, just, progressive and democratic society. Toward this end, the Organization endeavors to create linkages between itself and other organizations and institutions which share its principles and objectives.

The Organization is engaged in advocacies that protect the rights of the LGBT communities inside and out of the University of the Philippines.

==Activities==

In pursuit of its goals as a support and advocacy group, UP Babaylan undertakes a number of activities, to wit:

1. Support services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered students; 
2. Conferences, symposia and group discussions on lesbian and gay issues; 
3. Lesbian and gay rights advocacy/lobbying; 
4. Gender sensitivity workshops; and 
5. Networking with national and international lesbian and gay organizations. 

Service to the University and Society
UP Babaylan has established a niche among the students of the University if the number of invitations to speak in symposia, conferences and classroom discussions is any indication. This is not confined to UP alone. Other schools in the Metropolitan Manila have invited the organization's members to speak before their students. They are also invited as panelists and resource persons in television and radio programs as well as featured in various publications. To top it all of, the organization is comprised of top caliber artists and expressionists.

Recruitment and Reaffirmation Week
The two week recruitment week takes place at the AS Walk, where a sign-up booth is usually being set up. At the sign up booth the members of the Organization never failed to entertain passers by with gimmickry and antics UP students love. During the recruitment week the members of the Organization also conduct random lectures on gender issues and information campaigns on the developments in the lgbt community. Flyers containing texts on the Anti-Discrimination Bill or House Bill 2784 were given to passers-by.

Applicants Orientation Seminar
A crash course on the history and legacy of the organization is given to the 50 strong applicants of the Organization. A series of modules is conducted during the Orientation Seminar (OrSem). These modules run from team driven dynamics to gender sensitivity tests.

Applicants' Night
A night full of celebration as the Organizations alumni gather together in a night of festivity. The applicants prepare a series of skits and playful melodies of dance and song. Food usually brought by the members and the alumni is shared by all. It is also during the Applicants Night when the applicants are given their Babaylan names.

Gender Sensitivity Workshops
A series of workshops focusing on gender, sex and sexuality issues is conducted around the University. Participants submit themselves to a grueling five hour intensive and integrative program facilitated by the volunteers from our trained partners from TLF and TFP. It is through these workshops that we produce informed and open minded students of the University. The last year alone we were able to open the minds and inform around at least 100 students from the Asian Institute of Tourism and Kalayaan Residence Hall.

University Educational Discussions (ED's)
Not far from out vision of a University free from discrimination and fallacies, we conduct a series of education discussion where the applicants of the organization and their peers are allowed to interact in our peer-facilitated forums and seminars. There were about 500 students from the University who attended our educational discussions. The discussions involved modules and task-oriented workshops which handled issues on the following topics:

Androgyny
ANDROGYNY is the culminating activity of a month long calendar of events geared towards the celebration of Babaylan's anniversary. It is also annual event anticipated by both the UP community and the community at large from all walks of life. It is basically a motley of art expressions in dance, songs, theater and comedy showcasing top rate entertainment. Featured in the performance are the members of the organization who, through the years, have honed their respective talents under the auspices of noted artists in the various fields of the performing arts.

Lantern Parade
Aside from the lantern entries from the College of Fine Arts, what else is highly anticipated during the Lantern Parade? Yes, you are right, it can only be Babaylan.
The yearly participation of Babaylan raises controversies as we never fail to make statements and leave the audience in awe. Always clothed in habiliments of vivid expressions for anti-discrimination and strong sense of Christmas spirit, Babaylan

Festibam
It was National Lesbian Day. For seven years now the local LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender) community has been celebrating Lesbian Day and each year happens with a different concept. The 7th year was celebrated in a complete festive mood. There was a bazaar and an exhibit. The challenge for the participant-organizations was how to make each booth particularly interesting to the general public passing-by.

Festibam was a 100%-out-and-proud day for Filipino lesbians. The lesbian organizers chose a strategic venue where the general public would have a glimpse of our community. Our lesbian egos were bared to confront the wits of the morning joggers and afternoon strollers. And this challenge was suffice to expose in exponential degrees of how the modern Filipino lesbian looks like and acts in public.

Pride March – Philippines
The whole world danced in one song. UP Babaylan helped TFP, the official organizer of Pride March Philippines, through manpower and ideas on how the Pride March this year should be celebrated. UP Babaylan will be spearheading the student and academic arm of Task Force Pride March. We will be in charge of the alliance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered student organizations in the Philippines, a position we highly humble ourselves of.

UP Fair
The yearly event of the University was once again supported by the Organization by hosting a booth during the six day celebration. We sold food and beverages from which the proceeds will go to financing our projects.

USC Elections
The University Student Council Election is a very humbling experience for the organization. It also serves as our gauge to the level of the University’s acceptance of our LGBT community. The organization received numerous criticisms and a continuous flow of disrespectful articles from a student publication, but we never cowered before them. We remained proud of our lineage and legacy as our alumni were at their times. As anti-government student organizations continued to feed and instill homophobia in the minds of the University’s scholars, we remained clear with our goal, we remained focused on our ideals, and that is to win the elections fair and square. We are proud that we ran the past elections not at the expense of other candidates but with only our vision steadily lifting the butterfly wings of our ideals.

==The Organization==
The UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE is a duly recognized congregation of different provincial, regional and ethno-linguistic organizations in the University. Founded in 1975, its purpose is to study diverse cultures in the country; to boost solidarity and camaraderie among its member organizations; and to encourage a widening awareness and appreciation of our time-honored cultures and traditions among fellow Filipinos.

The UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE is one of the oldest yet one of the largest and most competitive student organizations in UP Diliman. Its membership is approximately 600 students from seventeen different provincial organizations duly recognized by the University.

UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE works to instill and foster unity and cultural exchange among its members, other students and even non-students. It organizes events which are all first-hand applications of such goals and endeavors and are all done for good causes.

In the past few years, the organization has embarked on various projects that have further pushed the standards of excellence, unity and cultural solidarity. These projects, including CULTURAL NIGHT (TanghalanLahi), FOODFEST (TsibuganLahi), SPORTSFEST (PalakasanLahi), INTER-ORGANIZATION QUIZ BEES (TagisanLahi) and INTER-HIGHSCHOOL QUIZ BEES (PatalasanLahi), serve as a meeting ground for students from different colleges and schools with different cultural backgrounds. Also, since the founding up to the present, it has been recognized as the umbrella organization of different organizations by the UP studentry, and has been recognized as an arm by the Office of the Student Regent.

In 2009, the Vice-Chairperson of Education and Research initiated a research project dubbed as "SALINLAHI: Exploring the Importance and Influence of UPD PRE Orgs" [[Image:SALINLAHI_by_UP_Sanlahi_Alliance_and_UP_CORE.pdf]]. This particular project introduced the term "PRE orgs" as a collective and short term when referring to provincial, regional and ethno-linguistic organizations.

==History==
When Martial Law was declared in 1972, all student organizations were illegalized (except for the [[Philippine Collegian]]). The students were then asserting their right to freedom of association. They believed gathering similar orgs together would strengthen and serve as a pillar for student power. In effect, the UP Sanlahi Alliance was born out of the need for umbrella bodies to press on the first ever held student elections hence a student government.

It was one of the successors of the Consultative Committee on Student Affairs (CONCOMSA I and II) and Committee on Student Affairs (COMSA), along with other student organization sectors namely ASAP (an alliance of social sciences orgs), APASS (an alliance of pure and applied sciences orgs), Fraternity Alliance and Dorm Councils.

When the tenure of COMSA expired and while student elections had not been held yet, these sectors somehow functioned as the legitimate student government in UP Diliman.

In addition, from these alliances emerged the student political party called Sandigan ng Mag-aaral para sa Sambayanan (SAMASA).

Through the alliances’ concerted efforts, the Student Government was re-established and then followed by the formation of student councils in other academic units of UPD.

After all these events, students in the other Metro Manila universities followed suit, and so student governments were also restored to more and more campuses not only in Metro Manila but throughout the country later on in the 80s.

Although the UP Sanlahi Alliance had already been working as an org on the third quarter of 1975, it was formally established during the first founding congress on the second semester of AY 1975-98 after it had been recognized. The first faculty adviser was Prof. Helen Estacio Lopez of the Department of English.

==Official Seal==

The official seal was created by Lloyd Llaga of UP Kalilayan. He won the logo-making contest in 1998.

The configuration of the whole logo is a square standing on one of its corners. This orientation represents the four major directions of the compass - UP Sanlahi Alliance covers all corners of the country. In the middle of all of it is an anahaw leaf to explain the material used to build the bahay-kubo; it is only one but a very important part of the house. It further symbolizes the tradition of "bayanihan" known by all. Behind it are the mountains with the sea as foreground. They emphasize the beauty of the geography and the persistence of UP Sanlahi Alliance to unite albeit separated by physical distance in the archipelago. There are also three stars to represent the major island groups and the colors of the flag behind. At the lower part is the year 1975 to commemorate the founding of the alliance. Wrapped around the logo are the name of the university and the alliance.

''Tao, teatro, pagbabago'' ang mga adhikaing sinusulong ng UP SIKAT (Sirkulo ng mga Kabataang Artista), ang pinakabagong grupong panteatro sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas at tanging performing arts organization ng Kolehiyo ng Agham Panlipunan at Pilosopiya (CSSP), na binuo upang mailapit ang teatro sa mas nakararaming mga tao. == '''Ilang Tala sa Kasaysayan ng UP SIKAT''' ==

Sa kursong Tao, Panitikan at Lipunan – sa ilalim ng premyadong manunulat na si Domingo Landicho – nabuo ang ideyang magtatag ng bagong samahan para sa pagtatanghal. Itinaguyod nina Pats Alcantara, Arjay Arellano, Ghie Claridad at Kharen dela Rosa ang pagbubuo ng samahang ito na pinangalanan bilang UP Sirkulo ng mga Kabataang Artista o UP SIKAT noong taong 2002. Sa taong ito, sa pamumuno ni Arjay Arellano, naganap ang makasaysayang pulong ng mga unang miyembro ng samahan – noong ika-12 ng Pebrero, 2003 sa Café Diliman, NISMED.

Pormal na kinilala ang UP SIKAT bilang isang samahan noong ika-4 ng Hulyo, 2003. Sa pamumuno ni Pats Alcantara at Jeff Agustin, na nagsilbing unang pangulo at pangalawang pangulo ng samahan, ipinakilala rin ang UP SIKAT sa buong Pamantasan sa pamamagitan ng mga pagtatanghal sa iba’t ibang programa. Sa buwan ng Agosto ng taong iyon, inilunsad ang “SHINE! The SIKAT Launch Month” na pinasinayaan ng isang pagtatanghal sa KAFE Katipunan, ang “SIKAT UNMASKED!” noong ika-1 ng Agosto, 2003. Mula sa mga pagsisikap na ito, nakilala at lumawak ang kasapian ng samahan.

Sa pagnanais na makilahok sa mas malawak na usapin sa Pamantasan at Bayan, sa taong din ito umanib ang UP SIKAT sa ALYANSA ng mga Mag-aaral para sa Panlipunang Katuwiran at Kaunlaran (ALYANSA). Makasaysayan ang taong ito sapagkat ito ang naging pinakamatagumpay na taon ng pormasyon, dala ng pagkakapanalo nito sa University Student Council (USC). Patunay sa aktibong pakikilahok ng UP SIKAT ang pag-prodyus nito ng mga lider-estudyante sa USC at pati narin sa CSSP Student Council.

Sa ikalawang taon ng UP SIKAT sa ilalim ni Jeff Agustin, kinakitaan ang UP SIKAT ng malaking potensyal bilang pinakabagong performing arts organization sa Unibersidad. Pormal na kinilala ng Kolehiyo ng Agham Panlipunan at Pilosopiya (CSSP) ang UP SIKAT bilang ang tangi nitong grupong panteatro. Sa pangalawang taon nito, pinatunayan ng UP SIKAT ang kaya nitong gawin, base sa naging mga aktibidad nito. Sa pagsisimula ng taong akademikong 2004-2005, naging aktibo kaagad ang UP SIKAT sa mga aktibidad sa Kolehiyo. Nakipagtulungan ito sa CSSP Student Council sa paglulunsad ng BIDA TAYO!, o ang taunang programa para sa mga bagong Isko at Iska sa Kolehiyo. Bilang katuwang sa usaping mapanlikha, tumulong din ang UP SIKAT sa KAPPistahan – ang malakihang konsyerto ng konseho para sa CSSP.

Magmula noon, naging aktibo ang kolaborasyon ng UP SIKAT sa CSSP Student Council. Naging kaagapay ng ating konseho ang samahan sa mga inilunsad nitong mga aktibidad. Kasama ang UP SIKAT sa mga programa tulad ng KAPPaskuhan at Pasiklaban. Aktibo ring lumahok ang samahan sa Pahinungod sa CSSP. Kasali rin ang UP SIKAT sa mga aktibidad ng mga departamento sa Kolehiyo. Malaki rin ang naging ambag ng UP SIKAT sa ginanap na Lantern Parade; kasali ito sa mga nag-disenyo at gumawa ng lantern ng Kolehiyo. Nakiisa rin ang samahan sa naging kampanya sa tambayan ng CSSPSC.

Patuloy na tutuparin ng UP SIKAT ang layunin nitong mailapit ang isang teatrong maka-Pilipino sa mas nakararami. Sa mga darating na taon, inaasahan na ang Sirkulo ng mga Kabataang Artista ay mas sisikat pa.

The UP Sangkil Karasak is a club dedicated to the practice of arnis, specifically the LSAI/LESKAS style of arnis. It began in 1991 as an informal club by the late Master Elmer Ybanez who founded LESKAS (Lema Scientific Kali Arnis System), and who was the most trusted student of Grandmaster Benjamin Luna Lema, the founder of LSAI (Lightning Scientific Arnis International). The LSAI itself was founded as early as 1937 in Capiz, Panay. The UP Sangkil Karasak was first officially recognized by the Office of Student Affairs in 2002. The name "Sangkil Karasak" means spear and shield, as a reminder of the native Filipino roots of arnis that reach far back as pre-Spanish colonial times.

In the unfortunate passing away of Grandmaster Benjamin Luna Lema on January 4, 2003, and his immediate successor Master Elmer Ybanez on March 31, 2004, the direct leadership of the club was handed over to their students. As of 2009, the active masters of the club are Master Felipe Bot Jocano, Master Nathan Dominguez, and Master Alex Ortinero.

Currently, training is scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday, 4pm onwards, at the Classroom 2 of the DMST Complex, UP Diliman.

ANNIVERSARY WEEK
 
 
Every organization has its day. In our case, we have a whole week of indulging in fun-filled and mind-boggling activities celebrating the organization we have come to love.
DILANG LINGGWIST
 
 
This project aims to promote linguistics as a discipline and create language awareness among high school students. One of the highlights of this event is the discussion of the Mother-Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MLE).
 
 
PAGALINGAN
 
 
PagaLINGan is conducted every semester. It is a quiz show to challenge the minds of individuals curious of the bizarre twists and turns of language and trivias which will stretch sanity to its limits.
 
 
SCHOOL VISIT PROGRAM
 
 
In line with the organization’s vision, UP SALIN has organized a School Visit Program which will entail the organization to come to different high schools and introduce Linguistics to the students coupled with introductory lessons on different foreign or local Languages.
 
 
KANTA MO, SALIN KO!
 
 
The event also aims to educate other people about the different Philippine languages and realize how important these languages are in defining our Filipino identity. The students will then be conscious and aware of the value and significance of each language and consider them to be also part of the mainstream.
 
 
Through the contest, the students are expected to gain basic historical and practical foundations of the Philippine languages. All of which are necessary in creating a sense of cultural identity. They may be hopefully empowered to fill in gaps or address an inadequacy of cultural pride and memory, thus building critical understanding, awareness, and appreciation of the Philippine languages in music.
 
 
SALIN DUNONG
 
 
A series of presentations to introduce majors to the papers which both higher year students and professors are currently working on.
This is to introduce constructive criticism on the papers on how to improve it and to correct errors according to peers and other professors and to serve as something to spark more ideas for supplementing on the current research or for creating a different new research altogether.
 
 
OUTREACH PROGRAMS
 
 
UP SALIN engages in socio-activities such as outreach programs and bloodletting drives. UP SALIN regularly hosts bloodletting drives with charitable institutions such as Philippine Red Cross and goes to institutions such as Golden Acres for outreach programs.

==History==

The UP-STPA is a university-recognized socio-academic student organization based in the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) of the University of the Philippines in Diliman. It was founded on the 26th of November 1988 by eighteen Public Administration students who were the first to enroll in the then-newly reinstituted Bachelor's Degree program which was abolished in 1968.

For the past twenty years, the UP-STPA has dedicated itself to the service of the Filipino people through the utilization of Public Administration as an effective and systematic tool in providing a humanistic and nationalistic oriented public service that is accountable and credible.

UP STPA is committed to promote Academic Excellence in its members. In line with this, symposia, lectures, seminar workshops, and forums such as Course Appreciation Program, Project Mgmt. Workshop and Public Speaking & Debate Seminar are given to STPAers and other UP students to encourage them to give more importance to the education they are privileged to have.

As students of Public Administration, STPAers believe in the strength of the people to influence change and progress in the government. Public Lectures, Debates, Voter’s Education, Discussions and Film Showing of issues concerning Filipinos such as Fiscal Crisis, Government Reinvention, and Poverty are held to further develop critical awareness in them, hoping that they be future advocates of change of our country.

Outreach Programs, Medical Missions and Book Sharing for urban poor communities & indigenous groups, also Leadership Trainings and Self development workshops for Public High School Students are held each semester to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters and to give STPAers the chance to serve the Filipino people making UP STPA an effective and efficient training ground for future public administrators.

This dedication has led to the organization's recognition by the University of the Philippines as a two-time Gawad Chancellor Awardee for Best Student Organization in 1996 and 1997, respectively. Still, the UP-STPA's task of creating a much better Philippine society continues - it is a commitment that we will carry on to the future.

===The Quiwarriors===
The Quiwarriors are the members of the Guild who are trained to compete in programming competitions. They receive training in graph theory, number theory, combinatorics, discrete mathematics and computational geometry among other topics. The Guild aims to keep producing the Philippines’ champions and win in the World Finals of the Association for Computing Machinery Intercollegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC), a world-renowned international programming competition.

The Quiwarriors trace their roots from the teams coached by Eric Tambasacan, then a faculty of the Department of Computer Science, for the 2007 and 2008 National Intercollegiate Programming Contests. The need for the skills of people outside of the department was apparent and so the idea for a university-wide organization was born. The first Guild teams competed in the 2009 Asia Regional ICPC – Manila Site, where the Guild’s team 1, “Mga SOGO ni E.T.”, placed 1st and became the first University of the Philippines Diliman team to advance to the World Finals.

The Guild is always on the look out for those who are eager to learn and who have a passion for problem solving.

The Qode Weavers are the members of the Guild who develop useful innovative applications. They are knowledgeable in different programming languages such as C, C+, C++, C#, Java, PHP, Python, Ruby, Lisp, etc.

They are involved in making websites, developing games,software projects and databases as needed. One of their more popular projects is the Bukluran system, a computerized organization renewal website, which has received numerous praises from its users.

As long as there are projects waiting to be done in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Qode Weavers.

It is being developed with the goal of eventually fully digitizing the process of org registration. The system aims to make the registration process easier for both the organizations and the Office of Student Activities (OSA).

Development of Bukluran was started in 2008 by a group of Computer Science majors as a requirement for their Software Engineering class. That group of Computer Science majors eventually became part of the first batch of Qode Weavers. The Guild has since taken up the task of developing and maintaining Bukluran as a service to the University.

The Philippine Association of Nutrition-Alpha Chapter (PAN-Alpha) is a duly accredited organization of the College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines-Diliman, and Philippine Association of Nutrition, Inc. Founded in 1947, PAN-Alpha has emerged to organize into a single body students of the College of Home Economics (CHE) who are interested in food and nutrition problems of the Philippines.

PAN-Alpha has been awarded by the CHE-Student Council as CHE’s Best Organization for three consecutive academic years (AY 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011). In addition, PAN-Alpha has been awarded as the Outstanding Student Chapter of PAN, Inc. for AY 2008-2009.

PAN Alpha was created to pursue academic excellence and professional growth among students taking the degree of Bachelor of Science in Community Nutrition offered at the Food Science and Nutrition Department of CHE. However, the organization is not limited to BS Community Nutrition students, since it is open to all CHE students who have taken up at least 3 units of any Food and Nutrition (FN) subject.

==Activities==
The Philippine Association of Nutrition – Alpha Chapter, as an organization comprised of BS Community Nutrition students of the University of the Philippines Diliman, has consistently adhered to the thrust of the Philippine Association of Nutrition. In general, PAN aspires to popularize the newer knowledge of nutrition and to focus the public eye upon the nation’s food problems and their proper solution. It has reached different people within the diverse UP community - composed of students from different backgrounds, the staff and workers, and the common people living within the premises of the campus and nearby settlers - as well as the less fortunate children in Boys' Town, Marikina. From wellness and nutrition counseling booths, seminars on health and nutrition, and community outreach programs, PAN-Alpha has proven that its goals and purposes, achieved as a form of community service and a means of personal development for its members, have proven to be noble and worthwhile endeavors aimed at improving the present condition (particularly in the health and nutrition aspect) of the community within its scale of influence and beyond. 
On the aspect of sharing and disseminating the knowledge and awareness on nutrition, PAN-Alpha launched campaigns and projects that aimed to inform and educate the students, the university staff and workers, other members of the UP community, and the children of Boys' Town; on the different concepts of nutrition and their relevance to healthy living. The celebration of the 35th Nutrition Month and PAN-Alpha’s 62nd Anniversary was marked by seminars, programs, and activities related to the prevention of lifestyle diseases and the importance of maintaining proper nutrition and having a healthy lifestyle. The organization basically showed that the Nutrition Month’s theme, which was “Wastong Nutrisyon Kailangan, Lifestyle Diseases Iwasan”, is still relevant and it should be given enough attention. Furthermore, alternative classes on physical activities and healthy food choices were launched to enlighten the students who are greatly affected by these issues. 
To give emphasis on wellness and well-being, PAN-Alpha embarked on its signature nutrition clinics and nutrition counseling activities that have continuously helped not only the students but also the UP employees, especially those at risk due to overnourishment or undernourishment, by increasing their awareness of their present nutritional status and by providing them with practical, beneficial, and comprehensible nutrition advice. Healthy eating tips and guidelines in food selection provided by the organization were always useful and practical. In further efforts to help the CHE staff and kawani to improve their health and nutrition status, PAN-Alpha organized a seminar regarding prevention of lifestyle diseases through a talk by a registered nutritionist-dietitian. PAN-Alpha continues to expand its territory by reaching out to other people outside the academic sphere of the UP community. By collaborating with the officials of Barangay UP Campus, and for this year, of Boys' Town, Marikina, the organization had the opportunity to be of assistance more people, especially those who are less fortunate. The organization organized outreach programs for the residents of Barangay UP Campus and for the children of Boys' Town, Marikina. These outreach programs aimed to build the good foundation of health and nutrition in the young minds of children as well as those of the mothers by providing seminars regarding proper food choices, nutrition for the adolescents, and safe, aesthetically pleasing, nutritious and economic way of preparing meals for low-income families. Indeed, PAN-Alpha has effectively disseminated the knowledge of nutrition to different people and the organization has strived to address and provide solutions to the concerns of the people regarding food (its accessibility and availability). PAN-Alpha believes that these actions are of paramount importance in ensuring the proper nourishment of the Filipino people, in order for them to effectively contribute in nation-building. 
As PAN-Alpha embarks on projects and activities that seek to promote nutrition and to help improve the nutritional status of more people, its members are likewise improved and developed. The weight and height clinics have helped its members in honing their skills in obtaining basic anthropometric measurements and in assessing one’s nutritional status by interpreting these measurements. Nutrition counseling sessions have also helped the student members in sharpening this skill that is a necessity for every nutritionist-dietitian. The planning and conceptualizations of project designs have developed the planning and critical thinking faculties of the student members, given the various factors that have to be considered such as time, manpower, behavior of the target group, and financial resources. Leadership skills are also enhanced, especially in the part of the officers, who are tasked to handle a number of students with different, and at times, contrasting temperaments, preferences, skills and capabilities. Definitely, good leadership is necessary in order to carry out various projects and activities. 
More importantly, PAN-Alpha’s projects and activities have become the vehicle for the nutrition students of UP, the Isko and Iska ng Bayan, to bring back to the nation. Programs and activities devoted to the community have opened doors for the student members to be of service to the workers, and the common people whose tolls have paved the way for their priceless education in our country’s National University – the University of the Philippines. On the whole PAN-Alpha of the University of the Philippines-Diliman has excellently fulfilled the real essence of an organization. Guided by its purpose and goals, it has touched and helped a great number of people and at the same time, it has nurtured its members and sustained them towards achieving a certain level of fulfillment as human beings. That alone is enough to justify the excellence and exceptionality of PAN-Alpha as an organization. 
PAN-Alpha’s mark of excellence and exceptionality is further established as the organization was recognized as the Most Outstanding Student Chapter of Philippine Association of Nutrition, Inc. for 2009. The organization’s efforts to provide community service and to forge the positive change in its field of expertise – health and nutrition, have proven their worth and significance to the people and communities who have been greatly impacted by the organizations various endeavors. As PAN-Alpha moves beyond its six decades of existence, it aspires to reach greater heights by continuing, and even expanding, it’s noble aspiration to help, develop, and enrich more and more people. PAN-Alpha will continuously step up to greater challenges and larger opportunities, as the field of nutrition continues to expand. The University of the Philippines Mathematics Majors' Circle (UPMMC) is a non-sectarian, non-partisan, academic organization under Institute of Mathematics, College of Science, UP Diliman. It is dedicated mainly to the scientific, intellectual and educational pursuits, particularly in the field of Mathematics. In line with these, the organization sponsors a scholar each year, and organizes Mathirang Mathibay, an annual Inter High School Mathematics Competition.

Since its establishment in 1974, it has been an ultimate fulfillment of the University of the Philippines Mathematics Majors' Circle to live by its goal of promoting excellence in Mathematics. UPMMC has maintained its distinction in scholastic field through its numerous activities, most notable of which is the prestigious Mathirang Mathibay, an annual mathematics competition among high school students.

The University of the Philippines Mathematics Club (UPMC) is a non-stock, non-profit university-wide organization that is dedicated to promoting and sustaining the interest in mathematics of college and university students through competitive but friendly activities. It is under the College of Science and duly recognized by the university.

The UP Mathematics Club was but a dream in a time when even our country's independence was just a vision. Yet, in February 14, 1921, spearheaded by students whose ideals were to promote mathematics as well as to serve the student body, that dream became a reality in a 13 year old university. This organization, committed to promoting an underdeveloped subject, still holds the same ideals as its founders had almost 92 years ago. Crisostomo Alma Jose, recognized as one of the fathers of the organization, was among those who made everything possible. Up to this day, the UP Mathematics Club has flourished in its field as it adheres to the vision of its forefathers with dedication.

Driven by the purpose of fulfilling the club's objectives, the members of the organization are divided into three standing committees: the Academic Affairs Committee (AAC), the Public Relations Committee (PRC), and the Ways and Means Committee (WMC). The difference of which depends on the nature of their work. There are also three non-standing committees which focus on some special tasks: the Membership Committee (Mem Com), the Secretariat Committee (Sec Com), and the Finance Committee (Fin Com). Under the leadership of the Board of Directors which is composed of the organization's elected officers, these different committees work towards the realization of the organization's ideals.

In line with its mission and vision, the organization boasts its two major activities: The Annual Freshmen Math Quiz, and The Annual Search for the Math Wizard. Free tutorials, also known as the organization's bloodline, are offered to those who seek help. Furthermore, symposia, study groups, exhibits and other activities keep the ideals alive and the members busy.

Through the years, the club has tried to do its share to contribute to upgrading the level of Mathematics in the country. In the years to follow, the UP Math Club aspires to do even more.

Its primary aim is to disseminate information about materials science and technology and its related fields to the academic community and to the rest of society.

UP MSS is an interdisciplinary organization where its members can share and exchange ideals about their chosen field of expertise. It is not only committed to the advancement of materials science and technology, but also to the promotion of unity, professionalism and camaraderie among students and professionals in the field of materials technology. It also aims to provide a conducive environment where members can learn and ascertain their role in the university and the community, while developing each member’s interest and potential as future materials technologists.

==Organization History==

UP MSS was established on February 21, 1999 with the generous efforts of its founding members, namely Pio Buenconsejo, Rowen Benig, Ariel Navaja, etc. Since its foundation, the organization has been actively participating in both intra- and inter-science and engineering events.

The original location of the organization’s tambayan used to be where the Cagayan Valley Student Forum tambayan presently is, along the Main Library (Gonzales Hall) compound. After several years, it had been relocated to the tambayan complex located between the Yakal and Ipil Residence Dormitories.

Today, after opening another decade of existence with the new tambayan which is located beside the 4th floor, leftmost staircase of the Melchor Hall, the UP MSS strives harder for the holistic betterment of its members. In its 12th year, the academic involvement of the organization is better represented by its efforts in bringing big annual events like The MatCh (Materials Challenge) for high school Students, Materials Science and Engineering Appreciation Seminars, Thesis Marathon, to name a few. Socio-civic works are also included by conducting the Gawad Kalinga Build and joining itself in the annual USC’s Community Fair.

==Profile==

The University of the Philippines Linux Users’ Group (UnPLUG) is a duly recognized student organization dedicated in promoting the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and in advocating FOSS philosophy through seminars, trainings, and software development.

The idea of openly sharing software source codes, knowledge, and ideas to the people that need them is an antithesis, and a natural opponent, to the current trend of big software companies to horde and hide the code, therefore monopolizing the software market, and making the public believe that software solutions could only come from one source, and could only come at a high price. This reflects that aside from the technical aspects of computers, computer-related technologies and software development, UnPLUG also concerns itself with the political, economic, and social issues, such as digital imperialism and monopoly, the FOSS movement, and the benefits that computers and automation would bring to the people.

==History==

It was a relaxing Sunday morning on July 20, 2003 when nine students met with the former UP President, Francisco Nemenzo Jr., at the Executive House for a seminar. Discussion revolved around Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and on how to bridge the digital divide. One of the solutions formulated was to form a student group advocating FOSS to penetrate the student and youth sector. Thus, the University of the Philippines Linux Users’ Group (UnPLUG) was born.

The nine students, namely Diwa del Mundo, Paolo Jerome Aromin, Eric John Arnaldo, Dean Michael Ancajas, Waldemar Bautista, Pio Ryan Lumongsod, Ardee Aram, Kyle Alaine Domingo, and Karl Redrick Santos, wasted no time in recruiting more members and in fulfilling the requirements for the recognition of the organization by the university. Despite the trouble of losing important documents on the day of the deadline, UnPLUG still somehow managed to be recognized.

After its recognition, UnPLUG began its journey to promote the use of FOSS and to advocate its philosophy through seminars, trainings, and software development, for the service of the University and the Filipino people.<ref>http://cms.uplug.org/about</ref>

==Profile==

The U.P. Lingua Franca is a duly recognized socio-academic organization of the Department of English and Comparative Literature of the U.P. College of Arts and Letters. It is composed of students whose passion lies in the appreciation of the beauty and power of the English language as it is used in literary and non-literary compositions, especially by Filipinos. Since it was founded in June 1996, it has never stopped fostering the growth and development of the study of the English language and of the literature written in English in the campus. Its present members take on the task of continuing this legacy, promoting it to other students of the University of the Philippines through lecture series, published journals, poetry reading and other enriching and worthwhile activities.

The UP Lingua Franca is comprised of students officially enrolled in the degree programs offered by the Department of English and Comparative Literature: 
BA English Studies: Language 
BA English Studies: Anglo-American Literature 
BA Creative Writing 
BA Comparative Literature 
However, during the school year 2002-2003, the members saw the need to accommodate non-DECL majors who are interested in the study of the English language and literature. Since then, the UP Lingua Franca has been open to any UP Diliman student who has taken at least 6 academic units from the DECL.

==History==

After the Language Society went inactive, a group of 25 enthusiasts from the BA English Studies Program realized the need to form a new organization and spearhead activities that would encourage interest and enhance skills in language and literature among students of the Department of English and Comparative Literature. So on June 22, 1996, the UP Lingua Franca was established.

The Constitution was drafted on the Wednesday after the day the UP Lingua Franca was established. It was implemented from A.Y. 1996-1997 to the first semester of A.Y. 1997-1998. During that time, membership to UP Lingua Franca was open only to language majors. However, the constitution continued to undergo revision to open the membership to all DECL majors until finally, it was formally ratified on January 12, 1998 by the 52 members and two advisers—Professors Philip Belarmino and Topsie Ruani Tupas—of the organization.

Since then, the UP Lingua Franca has never stopped fostering the growth and development of English language and literature studies in the campus through its lecture series, ACLE sessions, published journals, poetry reading and other enriching and worthwhile activities.

It was established in 1962 as the sole student organization and student council of the then Institute of Library Science. UPLISSA was re-organized in 2002 as an academic organization separate from the Student Council with the objectives of fostering camaraderie and unity among members, promoting scholastic and socio-cultural development of its members and providing opportunities for members to lead and serve the institute, university and nation. “We are bearers of light, guardians of objective narratives”… this is what librarians ought to be. Information seekers come to us and gain information, thus as custodians we are morally obliged to arrange, describe and facilitate access to bits of objective “truth”. Every element in our possession influences social understanding and learning, giving us the burden of maintaining fair and unbiased knowledge.

Founded in 1986 by ten French major students interested in promoting the French language and culture alongside those of the Philippines, the organization is growing continuously, especially with the admission of non-French majors in the Club. UP LCF caters to students of various courses who completed at least three units of French. It is an academic, socio-cultural student organization based in the Department of European Languages, in the College of Arts and Letters. It supplements classroom education by offering tutorial services ranging from elementary courses of French 10 and French 11 to the higher French courses, availed by both majors and non-majors alike.

Over the course of its history, LCF has undertaken numerous projects like symposia, film showings, poetry reading sessions and annual exhibits and the annual event "La Semaine Française" — for the continued development of its members and beneficiaries. It also actively participates in the annual inter-school gathering of French language students called Francophonie Day.

KMS na itaguyod ang isang dinamiko, makasaysayan, kritikal, at maka-Pilipinong pag-aaral ng tao at lipunan at gamitin ang ganitong kaalaman para sa pagtataguyod ng kagalingang panlahat ng mga mag-aaral ng Sosyolohiya at ng Unibersidad.

==History==
UP KAPITAS was conceptualized in the summer of 1990. It was officially recognized as a CSSP-based organization on the 27th of July of that same year. The founders, composed of ex-seminarians and ex-applicants of other philosophy organizations, envisioned to bring back the lost glory of Philosophy and create a unique Filipino philosophy that would alleviate the oppressive lives of the Filipino masses. They number about 21 in all.

The UP Kabataang Pilosopo Tasyo (UP KaPiTas) is a College of Social Sciences and Philosophy-based socio-academic organization pursuing the following OBJECTIVES:

== History ==
Sometime during the closing days of the first semester of 1959, September 22 to be exact, a group of 15 young senior BA Accounting majors decided to organize an association dedicated to the enhancement of their chosen field of expertise. Despite the lack of support from their classmates at that time, they formed the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) with Antonio Lim as its first president. With the endorsement of Dean Jovina Lorenzo, the small organization immediately gained University recognition at the beginning of the year's second semester. 

At that time, membership was open to all junior and senior students, non-accounting majors included. The application process was relatively simple: one has to pay a fee of P5.00 and fill up an application form—a far cry from our present screening procedures. Despite the leniency of the application process, the quality of its members never waned; it managed to outclass the other BA-based organization in terms of projects and the value of the association it bestowed to the college as a whole. 

The organization never faltered to its pursuance of academic excellence. In 1963, UP JPIA initiated its first tutorial session to students as well as the distribution of sample exams. It catered socially to accounting majors where seminars in PICPA Activities and education films features were conducted twice a month, with the enthusiastic endorsement of the college administration under the helm of Dean Cesar Virata. 

In 1965, the Junior Audit, the official news organ of the UP JPIA then, came off the press to cater to its members on relevant issues concerning the accounting field, as well as organization news tidbits and tsismis. In 1985, under the UP JPIA president Joseph Lim the news organ was given a facelift. The Current Account now covered not only the news on UP JPIA activities, but also of the different business sectors, highlighting the accounting profession. The news organ of UP JPIA was renamed "NetWORKS” by Emil Librea in 1955, then editor-in-chief. Eventually it was informally dubbed “Networx” as it is known today. 

In 1966, UP JPIA, in cooperation with De La Salte University, launched the first National Federation of Certified Public Accountants in the country. With the endorsement of PICPA the Federation's membership grew from 4 in 1967 to 15 in the latter part of the 1970s. In 1983, UP JPIA was one of the six spokes (founding members) of the wheel that eventually became the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NF JPIA). 

During the early part of the 70s, the period when radical ideas and concepts seeped into the consciousness of the University, UP JPIA, under the presidency of Melito Salazar, Jr. (who at that time, was also the treasurer of the USC), inculcated national awareness to the UP CBA studentry, traditionally known for its bourgeois image and indifference. Under his administration, UP JPIA toned down its activities that were sosyal in nature. It was also during his term that the Junior Audit was used to exhaustively discuss relevant political and economic issues. 

In 1972, under the helm of Dean Jaime Laya, the five-year Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accountancy was launched, and with it the dawn of major changes in UP JPIA's membership qualifications. Entrance into the organization was limited to BAA students, and batch range participation included a new level of membership: the terminals. 

Martial Law temporarily dissolved the organization with all student campus associations. However, it was granted recognition after less than a year by the college administration. With the reemergence of UP JPIA, a new and more fervent spirit was brought into the minds and hearts of its members and officers, and dynamic revisions were made on its activities. A new organ for the organization, the Accountdown was launched in 1975. Application for membership was made more stimulating in 1976, and its financial projects became more monumental in scope. 

Throughout the years, UP JPIA has consistently produced the cream of the crop among the students not only in BA.but also in the entire university. With the likes of Annabelle Po, Jane Ang, Edward Zsornack, Eamwell Tiu, Lizette Abelia, Eugenio Tan, Billy Soo, Ana Parco, Evelyn Kho, Maita de Guzman, Garry Ng, Evelyn Chua, Dionne Sanchez and Duke Bajenting, and most recently Grace Dumalaog, the endless stream of UP JPIA Summa cum laudes could go on and on, which proves that JPIA members are not slouches when it comes to academic excellence in the college. In the University level even, it is hardly equaled. 

UP JPIA has also consistently exposed its members to worthwhile socio-civic endeavors. It conducts regular outreach activities, among which include tree planting sessions, Paralympics in Tahanang Walang Hagdan, Medical Mission, Christmas parties for street kids, visits to UP PGH and East Avenue Medical Center Pediatric Wards, and Saturday Schoo| sessions. It has also established the Task Force Street Children of UP Diliman. Its current socio-civic venture, known as the Long-term Educational Assistance Program (LEAP), involves giving scholarships to those who need it. Each year, UP JPIA, together with the Office of Counseling and Guidance, holds the University Job Fair, a task it has held since 1997. It has also been consistently in the Steering Committee of the Freshmen Orientation Program Committee, serving as Chairperson for AY 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2003-2004, and 2004-2005. 

UP JPIA's tradition of excellence was recognized by the administration when it was given
the distinction of being the "Most Outstanding CBA Organization" for five years, the "Most Outstanding Organization” in 1987,1989 and 1990 (under the leadership of Pauline Cetera, Ruth Ciriaco, and Susan Lim, respectively). Again in 1995, under the presidency of Greg Yaw, UP JPIA became the "Most Outstanding Organization” in UP. In 1993 and 1994, with Dowa Romero and Ronnie Traballo at the helm, UP JPIA was chosen as one of the ''Outstanding Local Chapters” by the National Federation. In 1995 (with Jasmin Viculado as president), the National Federation recognized UP JPIA as the ''Most Outstanding Local Chapter. In 1998, UP JPIA was the sole recipient of the most coveted "Gawad Chancellor Award for the Most Outstanding Organization” in UP. Since then, it has been awarded "Most Outstanding Local Chapter” twice (Noel Hernandez-1999; Lorybeth Baldrias-2000, also Most Outstanding JPIAn), "Outstanding Local Chapter” (Jay Jay Chua-2001; Sierra Basmayor-2002), and the Guilder Magazine's Organization of the Year and Organization-Head of the Year (Sierra Basmayor-2002). In 2004, it once again received the "Gawad Chancellor Award for the Most Outstanding Organization”, and named as an "Outstanding Local Chapter". In 2005 it once again received the “Gawad Chancellor Award for the Most Outstanding Organization”, and being a three-time recipient was inducted to the Gawad Chancellor Hall of Fame – the first and only recipient of this elite honor. This proves that UP JPIA, indeed, is one of the best organizations not only in the University, but also in the whole country. 

With a swift passing of the old guard, the glorious reminder of forty-five years of experience, perhaps the conduct of this organization's history of excellence could never be better concluded than the words of UP JPIA member, Billy Soo:

==History==

The Interschool Business Association was founded in 1976 by Oscar Pobre, George Jimenez and Tom Barrameda. They were from a business-oriented sector of the Ateneo, who streamlined their resources with the already established Maryknoll Business Association.

Two more colleges affiliated themselves with IBA, Assumption College and the University of the Philippines were incorporated- and it became a non-stock, non-profit organization. Their productive ventures consist of benefit shows, company tours, exposure excursions, medical clinics, scholarships, and a lot more.

In 1986 and 1988, the De La Salle Business Association and the Association of Concerned Business Students were acknowledged as chapters. The sixth chapter of IBA, in the Center for Research and Communication was welcomed into the fold in 1993. To date, there are 3 active local chapters: Ateneo de Manila University, Miriam College and the University of the Philippines.

The University of the Philippines Geological Society (UP GeoSoc) is a duly recognized college-based (UP College of Science) academic organization. The society promotes the advancement of the Geological Sciences among the student body, its increasing membership and the local academic community. Composed primarily of BS Geology students, the UP GeoSoc is based at the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) at UP in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. For the past years, the society has been venturing into projects promoting the Geosciences through exhibits and fun filled activities, among others, inside and outside the walls of the university.

The Geoquiz has been an annual competition held by the organization since the year 2000. The main objective of the event is to promote geosciences especially to those who are still in high school. Students from different schools in Metro Manila and nearby provinces are invited to join the competition. As an organization who knows the role of geosciences in our community, we would like them to realize its importance and that it is not only confined to identifying rocks but is a very broad field of learning.

UP Geosoc will once again organize geology based activities and lectures for select high school students which will serve as supplementary sessions to their earth science curriculum. Some might be nonsensical but then, that’s all we need sometimes, a little sense of humor.

The exhibit will be displayed for a whole week at the NIGS lobby open for both Geology Majors as well as other UP students to see. The design and theme of the exhibit will focus on the development of geology in the Philippines and the advancements it has made throughout the years. The U.P. Geodetic Engineering Club is an academic organization duly recognized by the [[College of Engineering]] of the [[University of the Philippines]]. Since 1937, UPGEC has always been at the forefront of promoting academic excellence and camaraderie among its members, the faculty, and staff through activities that foster the advancement of geodetic engineering and science.

==Org Profile==

Just as Melchor Hall stands tall amidst the vastness of the University of the Philippines, extending its branches as it embraces every Engineering student aspiring unbearably to reach the top, the U.P. GEODETIC ENGINEERING CLUB, in like manner, aspires to adhere to its promise of quality and excellent service to the Geodetic Engineering studentry, to the Department of Geodetic Engineering, the College of Engineering, and the University, as well.

The year after the establishment of the U.P. Department of Geodetic Engineering under the School of Surveying in the University of the Philippines-Diliman, in June 1937, marked another monumental event. On the U.P. 4th floor hallway on East/Vila Wing of Melchor Hall, leading to UPGEC's tambayan (MH 428), Geodetic Engineering Club was born, on August 15, 1937. Since then, the club continuously abides to its goal of meeting both the challenges along this field of study so as to promote proficiency and competence as future engineers, and of bringing togetherness and companionship among the young Iskolars bound not only of the same course, but of that sole dream - nation empowerment.

The UP Geodetic Engineering Club has proven its existence. During the first half of the year, it celebrates its Anniversary with a Holy Mass, Open Tambayan, Alumni homecoming, exhibit, and lectures and symposia. The month of December is one of the most awaited season in the College of Engineering as it holds its annual Engineering Week., where the club sponsors the GEOID CUP, an inter-organization chess tournament. There is also the VOLLEYBAGAN, the Engineering Week Volleyball Tournament where players from participating organizations all over the university bang their heads off for the crown. And just last year comes the revival of the club's participation to INDAKAN, a dance competition and AWITAN, what else but a chorale competition. This just proves that the club has so much talent to showcase.

Usually towards the end of February or early March, the club goes all-out for one week as it celebrates the G.E. DAYS, in cooperation with the Department of Geodetic Engineering. There are also several fundraisers such as food sales, film showings (e.g. "Jurassic Park", "Addam's Family, "Of Love and Shadows"), flower sales, fund runs and raffles.

The club offers all these and more . Through the years, it has for many reasons remained one of the pillar organizations in the College of Engineering. As it turns 75 this year, the U.P. Geodetic Engineering Club continues to play a major role in the upliftment of quality and excellence through its resident members, alumni, and applicants.

==History==

As far back as the Spanish regime in the Philippines, there were people who performed land measurements. They were called agrimensores. But these agrimensores were equipped with nothing but compass and tape, thus the questionable accuracy of their surveys led to controversies-some not yet resolved to the present day. So when the Americans came, a new government unit was organized-the Bureau of Public Lands which was staffed at the top by Americans.

The first American Director of Lands was Charles A. Sleeper. When F.B. Harrison became governor general, he adopted the "Filipinization" policy. Vicente Mills became the first Filipino Director of Lands.

The Bureau then established a surveying school which was on the same grounds as the Philippine School of Arts and Trades. The school offered scholarships to students for its two- year surveying courses, after which these Bureau of Lands "pensionados" or scholars had to serve the government.

It was not until 1925 that an agreement was made to incorporate the School of Surveying of the Bureau of Lands into the UP College of Engineering. The School of Surveying was a unit of the College of Engineering offering the Associate in Surveying title to its graduates.

Then came the depression. In 1932, the Bureau of Lands suspended sending pensionados. However, the School of Surveying-College of Engineering agreement still held. There were non- pensionado students and some "stragglers". Then in 1936, the Bureau of Lands restored sending pensionados. These scholars were selected through a nationwide competitive examination. It was then that a surveyor and civil engineer, Professor Maximo LAchica began to advocate the elevation of the surveying course to the 5-year Bachelor of Science on Geodetic Engineering courses, this proposal and curriculum was approved in the early part of 1937.

And thus, in June 1937, the Department of Geodetic Engineering was born, created under the School of Surveying. That year marked another monumental event as well, the birth of the Geodetic Engineering Club.

Through the years, the club has played a major role in the development of friendship and companionship among GE students in the university. We, the members, are not just people thrown together by the same course, we are part of one big, happy family who are always there to help and support each other through the rigors of college life.

This team regularly meets to discuss plans and activities, coordinate their respective committee activities, and present these to the general membership during general meetings. They do not only draw the blueprints for every activity, the EXECOM is there down to the workings of the smallest detail.

An EXECOM meeting is a study on the beauty of integration. Since its members head the existing committees, individual plans are organized and welded into one whole coordinated affair.

==History==

The UP Economics Towards Consciousness is the only academic-political organization based in the UP School of Economics. Composed of Economics, Business Economics, and other degree majors, ETC has consistently created venues concretely linking classroom discussions to social realities.

The late 70s was a time for social and political turmoil, and as the Marcos dictatorship could neither hide behind the facades of peace and progress, it sought to protect itself through outright repression, to quell dissent among people. It was in this context that twelve economics students led by founding Chairperson Orville Solon, now part of the UPSE Faculty, formally established then the UP Economics Towards Consciousness on February 10, 1979. Through its history, ETC has consistently endeavored to bring to life the objectives of unity, consciousness, and action for which it was founded.

:The years 1966-67 saw the Society make its mark through its many contributions to the University. Cognizant of its role in the academe, ECOSOC spearheaded the drive in raising funds for projects like two fellowship grants and the donation of books to the CBA. The convocations, student-teacher dialogues, then considered eloquent steps, were germane to economics. Those years were indeed productive years for ECOSOC in as much as the Formal Scholarship Fund for Economics majors was founded.

:In 1967, ECOSOC struggled for “independence” from the CBA. It was the assertion of ECOSOC to break free from CBA’s congestion. Then as ever, it was active in its projects and views on campus politics and issues. Also, its Scholarship Fund was continued. To further realize ECOSOC’s commitment to intellectual upliftment, convocations and lecture series featuring professors from here and abroad were held to expound on topics relevant to economics like National Economy and Foreign Trade. 1967 also marked the metamorphosis of the Society from a confined group of honor students to one open to all Economics Majors. It was then that ECOSOC received its first Most Outstanding Organization Award.

:ECOSOC was consistent in furthering academic awareness and excellence through convocations and symposia in the late sixties. One of the most important achievements of the Society was its conception of a consolidation of all Economics student organizations in the country. Thus was born the Junior Philippine Economics Society. It aimed to establish and promote goodwill among economics students and helped create awareness and commitment to improve the economic, political and cultural welfare of the Filipino.

:In the seventies, ECOSOC became highly politicized and involved in university and national issues. :The start of the eighties saw ECOSOC sustain its ideas and renew its commitment. Aside from the symposia, tutorials and convocations that were sponsored, its socio-civic projects were at the heights when visits to Bacoor, Bicutan and the various housing areas in the campus were made. Nurseries and medical clinics were sponsored to reach out to the underprivileged in our society. Company tours, contest and fundraisers were also undertaken. As contribution to the Diamond Jubilee of the University, ECOSOC co-sponsored a socio-cultural activity involving the alumni and the parents of the Economics majors. Aside from this, the Society sponsored an Alumni Homecoming. To cap the Society’s Silver Anniversary, it received the prestigious Wenceslao Vinzon’s Award as the Most Outstanding Organization.

:In 1986, ECOSOC received the Presidential Award for Outstanding Organization in the entire UP system nationwide. In 1987, it duplicated this feat. The Society’s secret is, of course, its members. Our chief attraction is the opportunity to meet people and to be with people. People with a common resolve to serve, who, in the process, derive a lot of satisfaction; economists who are firm in the belief that people are the best capital, and service is the best investment.

:In commemoration of its 30th anniversary, in 1988, it sponsored an Alumni Homecoming held at the Executive House. A Bingo Social was also held to obtain funds for the scholars it supported. It was also during this time that ECOSOC began to grant its members discount privileges by coming out with the official membership cards. In 1989, “Into You”, a trend-setting dance party was held at the Faces Disco. Also on the same year, ECOSOC sponsored a concert of Freddie Aguilar to help build a school in Lagro.

:1990 was a reason to celebrate as it once again received the Presidential Award for Most Outstanding Organization in the entire UP system. 1990’s fundraisers were the Pinoy Wrestling and a disco/concert/fashion show held at Faces Disco – “Sari-Sari Night." The following year, ECOSOC sponsored the movie premiere of “Home Alone” at the Meralco Theater, after which a disco-party was held at Mars Disco. September of 1991, it featured two of the country’s up and coming bands – Artstart and G-steps at the Faces Disco, where our own ECOSOC band pitted talents with them. At the beginning of 1992, ECOSOC introduced the most generous fundraiser ever. “2 Legit 2 Quit” featured the advance screening of two blockbuster movies, “Dead Again” and “Other People’s Money”, both premieres were held at the Meralco Theater. The second night was followed by a concert of the famous Side A Band at the newly opened Music Hall.

:ECOSOC takes pride in its many achievements. The many achievements of UP Ecosoc have not been ignored, as it has received the now defunct Wenceslao Vinzon’s award for Most Outstanding Organization four times. :Today, the University of the Philippines Economics Society remains true to the young, idealistic vision that created it and to the collective sense of service and camaraderie that sustains it. One of the organization's objectives, that of directly contributing as much as the members possibly can to alleviate social problems – has motivated ECOSOC’s establishment of weekend nurseries and day-care activities at nearby Pook Ricarte and weekly tutorials for the sixth graders of San Vicente Elementary School, which are directly supervised by the members themselves. As an academic organization, the Society conducts study groups and tutorials, holds book sales and rentals, publishes a paper, the ECHOES, and even collects sample exams for the benefit of the economic student.

:With the start of the new millennium, the Society boasts of one of the largest memberships in the entire UP System, now standing at around two hundred. The Society has become known for its various activities, all of which aim for the well being of its members and the achievement of its goals of SERVICE, EXCELLENCE, and TRADITION. These include company tours, talks and symposia, seminars, various sports events, variety shows, semestral fundraisers, etc. ECOSOC continues to conduct weekly day care sessions for younger children from Pook Ricarte, and semestral Free Clinics for various communities.

:Until the first semester of 2003, the society had been sponsoring weekly tutorials for the Grade Six students of Balara Elementary School, with free art, writing, and sports workshops for selected students of the same school. However, a modification in the class schedules of the sixth grade classes from the afternoon to the morning prompted a major change. At present, the society now sponsors the weekly tutorials of the San Vicente Elementary sixth graders – but with the same passion and commitment that has marked their endeavors.

:By means of the UP Economics Society Scholarship Fund (ESSF), three deserving students are currently able to go to high school with full scholarships. They are Jonathan Baduria, Kevin Delos Santos, and Seann Vicente.

:In 2011, for the first time in its history, the UP Economics Society Scholarship Fund catered to the education of one UP School of Economics student, in an effort to promote economics as a tool for national development.

:In 2012, the Society embarked on a new partnership with the GK-NTC Pinag-isang Palad community, with whom Ecosoc holds community-building activities such as the health mission and house builds.

:ECOSOC believes that the study of economics cannot be totally isolated from any other social phenomenon and that the UP student, particularly the ECOSOCer, is inherently responsible to the Filipino people. What the student doesn’t learn inside the classroom is learned in the world called ECOSOC.

:Headed by the President, Ad Hoc is responsible for the month-long celebration of the Society’s anniversary month every September.

===Task Force===

:Task Force is a special committee headed by the Vice President, and is responsible for the society’s major fundraising event that supports the ESSF. During the first semester, it mounts Musikapella, a chorale competition for high school students.

===Academic Affairs===
:Its responsibility is to make sure that most of the academic needs of the members are met, as well as establish a good relationship with
the UPSE faculty. They hold book rentals, symposia, tutorials, debate trainings and programs for the faculty.

===Comunity Development===
:This committee is known as the heart of Ecosoc. It supervises the weekly tutorials for the Grade 3 students of Balara Elementary School every Monday and the weekly day care sessions for the younger children of Pook Ricarte every Saturday.

===Echoes===
:Echoes is the official publication of the society. Echoes documents all of the society’s undertakings and provides a venue for Ecosocers with an inclination for writings. This committee manages the organization’s website and it also publishes the literary works, opinions and committee news.

===External Affairs===
:Our “window” to the outside world, Externals updates the society with what’s going on around the college, university and the nation. It coordinates with the students and officers of other Econ organizations through JPES, or the Junior Philippine Economics Society. It also holds symposia and talks for Ecosocers.

===Finance===
:Finance is responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of the society’s financial status and releases financial statements for each month. It holds meaningful and timely activities to raise funds for the organization.

===Liaison===
:Liaison is the society’s coordinator with the alumni. It updates the alumni on the activities the society is holding. It is responsible for updating the alumni database as it grows bigger after every semester. It holds career talks, symposia, company tours, and alumni dinners.

===Membership===
:The Membership Committee handles the entire application process. It screens the applicants and monitors the progress of the members of the society. It is primarily responsible in the internal unity of the organization. It also holds the fun-filled Tambay Week every semester.

===Secretariat===

:As a virtual “extended arm” of the Secretary, Seccom is responsible for all paperwork in the society (except the publication) and artwork (posters, production work etc). It is responsible for the decorations as well as the cleanliness of the Ecosoc’s tambayan at SE 121. It also takes charge of the society’s directory, t-shirts, and the applicant’s sigsheet and the Ecosoc calendar.

:SPEV holds exciting events such as the Treasure or Scavenger Hunt, Vice Night, Christmas Party in line with the organization’s thrusts and the members’ well-being. It also caters to the cultural undertakings of the society.

===Sports===
The Sports Committee takes care of all the sporting events of the society like the Members Bersus Applicants, Race of Thunder, and other Ecosoc tournaments.

===Executive Committee===
:The Executive Committee, or the Execom, is the highest governing body in the Society. It is composed of 12 members of Committee Chairpersons and Officers. The Execom meets every Friday, 12:00-1:00pm at the tambayan.

The '''UP DOST Scholars' Association''' ('''UP DOST SA''') was established on November 17, 1979 as an organization of DOST Scholars in University of the Philippines, Diliman. It is a non-stock, non-profit socio-academic organization aiming to promote science consciousness and to secure the welfare of scholars.

Through the years, UP-DOST SA has grown steadily with its members and alumni here and abroad, amassing a significant number of achievements and awards in academics as well as in other areas, establishing UP DOST SA as an organization that lasts the test of time.

The '''UP DOST Scholars' Association''' ('''UP DOST SA''') traces its humble beginnings to a small coalition of Scholars in the University of the Philippines, Diliman in 1975. It was formally and officially recognized on November 17, 1979. In the span of its more than two decades of existence, the UP-DOST SA had changed its official name from University of the Philippine-National Science Development Board Scholars' Association (UP-NSDB SA), to University of the Philippines-National Science And Technology Administration Scholars' Association (UP-NSTA SA) in 1983, and to the University of the Philippines-Department of Science and Technology Scholars' Association (UP-DOST SA) in 1987.

== Activities ==
Every Year, the UP-DOST SA leads the orientation of incoming freshmen DOST scholars within Mega Manila through the Summer Orientation and Enrichment Program (SOEP). It also organizes what was once a Freshmen Inter-University Inter-Block Science Quiz (SciQuiz), which was later reformatted into an NCR-wide Inter-High school math and science competition. Other activities include Sponsor-A-Kid (SA Kid) Program,DOST Scholars Summit, Science related Educational Discussions, Science Exposure Tours, Popscicle Quiz Show, and Academic Tutorials.

== Membership ==
Any person who wishes to be a part of UP-DOST Scholars' Association must be an undergraduate student of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, must be or must had been a DOST undergraduate scholar, must not be graduating within one year upon being a member and must pass the application process under the supervision of the Membership Committee.

Honorary membership may be granted by the organization to any person exemplifying the association's objectives and by the virtue of an outstanding service to the association.

UP Circuit is an academic organization based in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI) duly recognized by the University of the Philippines. The organization was established in 1994 as the students’ response to a more dynamic department. As such, its members aim to meet the needs of current EEE students as future engineers by helping them attain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the ever evolving field of engineering.

UP Circuit’s pride as an organization is in its members’ tradition of academic excellence. The organization is a consistent source of achievers for both the institute and the university. Every semester, its members emerge as part of the list of University and College Scholars. The members are not only recipients of various awards inside and outside the university, but they are also chosen to represent the university in different contests, talks and conferences. Despite its young age, the organization has come up with seven BPI-DOST Science Awardees and two Board top-notchers.

UP Circuit has established within itself what it takes to be a premier organization in the University of the Philippines. For the past 18 years, it has organized 15 seasons of SquEEEze – the only annual Electrical and Electronics Engineering national quiz show,<ref name="SquEEEze"/> Sibol – a tree-planting and fundraising activity, AKBAY – a socio-civic project that aims to provide high school students with adequate computer and information technology skills, and PalEEEtan – a campus exchange program. In addition, it has also put together two seasons of ChargEEEng UP, co-presented four years of LoveRage in the UP Fair, co-presented Microsoft’s InstallFest – a promotional event on the use of legal and genuine Microsoft Software,<ref name="Installfest"/> handled numerous tutorials, review sessions and volunteer works within the institute, the college and the community, including EEEscape the ShoCKT – a series of review sessions to help the freshman adapt to the university and EEE Life, and many other projects that continue to help students inside and outside EEEI.

The UP Circle of Administrators, also known as UP CIRCA, is a duly recognized socio-academic organization based at the National College of Public Administration and Governance.

It was founded on 24 February 1992 by six young students ------ '''Raul Chan, Edward Antiojo, Shiela Bautista, Alexis Cordero, Emil Estrada, and Rey Millan''' ----- with a vision of establishing an organization that will help students become responsible and accountable public servants.

The organization molds individuals into young student leaders who have the passion for genuine public service. Also, UP CIRCA hones students to be academically-excellent and at the same time be aware of the importance of being socially committed. It is the home of numerous magna cum laude and cum laude graduates of the college as well as student leaders who were molded by this very organization.
