Abstract
This study looked into the profile of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)
beat reporters to assess the current state of Sports Journalism in the Philippines. The
study focused on the preparedness of the PBA beat reporters in covering the said league,
closely looking at their 1) attitudes, 2) beliefs and 3) values.
A qualitative-quantitative research design was employed to accomplish the
study’s goal. For its quantitative aspect, articles and reports about the PBA 2014
Philippine Cup Finals published in print and online media was content analyzed. On the
other hand, the qualitative aspect of the study consisted of interviews from key
informants from the field, who provided information about the beat and the profession.
A survey was also administered for descriptive purposes.
