This study identifies and analyzes the framing methods that shape the mediation and transformation of a live sporting event to a televised game. The television coverage of ABS-CBN Sports and Action of the UAAP Season 80 basketball finals series which started on November 25, 2017 and ended on December 3, 2017 is used as the case study.

Following the two-level agenda-setting theoretical model of Maxwell McCombs and Donald Shaw, the exposure and portrayal framing methods are investigated. Taking into account the content analysis of the game coverage, discourse analysis of key informant interviews, and participant observation, eight frames were found; three exposure framing methods namely the (1) broadcast rights contract, (2) schedule of games, and (3) TV network channels; and five portrayal framing methods namely (4) production environment, (5) storyline, (6) on officiating, (7) advertising, and (8) UAAP and ABS-CBN values.

The eight frames applied in the coverage are dictated by the following sources of agenda: UAAP, ABS-CBN, advertisers, and the audience. Aside from the eight frames, it was also concluded that UAAP and ABS-CBN engage in a symbiotic relationship and that sports production generally requires low level of mediation.
Laureola, A. O. (2018). Makeup Vlogs: Exposure and Makeup Usage of Female College Students in Metro Manila. Unpublished Thesis, University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication.

In the advent of social media, the make-up industry has evolved in many ways. There now exists a vast genre of vlogs (video blogs) that are specifically for makeup. Some of the content these vlogs contain are makeup tutorials and product reviews.

This study is about makeup vlog exposure and makeup usage. It is a descriptive research focused on female college students in Metro Manila who watched makeup vlogs and were regular users of makeup. Respondents were selected through stratified random sampling and snowballing techniques from the total population of Metro Manila. A total of 167 respondents answered a survey questionnaire that asked about their makeup usage attributes and makeup vlog viewing habits and preferences. Eight (8) randomly chosen survey respondents were interviewed to gather data in order to validate the results from the survey. The two variables determined were the exposure and viewing preferences of the respondents to YouTube makeup vlogs and their makeup usage attributes.
The theoretical framework this research is based on is the Objectification Theory by Fredrickson and Roberts (1997).

This research aimed to paint a picture of how female college students in Metro Manila are exposed to makeup vlogs on YouTube and how they use makeup as well. It was found that the results revealed an implication of a relationship between makeup vlog exposure and makeup usage attributes.
Cortes, C. C. (2018). Making the Perfect Man: An Autoethnography of Fitness Culture on Mobile Applications. (Unpublished undergraduate thesis). University of the Philippines Diliman, College of Mass Communication.

This study is about fitness culture on mobile applications and how it creates an image of an ideal physical masculinity. Specifically, this research investigates how consumption and strict adherence to JEFIT Workout’s regimen correlates to my own perception of ideal physical masculinity. This was done using a two-phased study which used a case study and autoethnography.

A convenience sampling was conducted for this study. This study took its sample from the mobile application JEFIT Workout. After observing (1) application features, (2) workout program content, and (3) photos on the mobile application, I then analyzed myself as a participant of fitness culture by following JEFIT Workout’s featured regimen. I observed (1) how my perception of the image of ideal physical masculinity has changed after participating in the application’s fitness program and (2) my physical development while following the application’s featured regimen.

This study discusses how fitness culture is a social and cultural phenomenon, identifies the image of ideal physical masculinity that is expressed by the mobile application, and relates the said image to my own perception of the image of ideal physical masculinity after participating in the mobile application’s featured regimen.

Raewyn Connell’s masculinity, Roland Barthes’s semiotics, and an essay by Ochs and Capps titled Narrating the Self served as the theoretical framework of this study.

It has been observed that JEFIT Workout acts as a tool that further involves each participant into fitness culture via its various features. It reinforces the idea that fitness culture is a social and cultural phenomenon through a participant’s engagements within the application.
The identified the image of ideal physical masculinity that JEFIT Workout articulates was juxtaposed with my own perception of the ideal image of physical masculinity after partaking in fitness culture as promoted by JEFIT Workout and was determined to be very similar to the image that the application constructs and promotes
Cortes, C. C.

This study is a feminist critical discourse analysis of gender portrayals in the episodes of ABS-CBN’s ''Wansapanataym'' since its reboot in 2010. As arguably the most popular local value-oriented television program airing on Philippine free television for children, ''Wansapanataym'' maintains its relevance in the lives of its target audience. By making use of a feminist critical discourse analysis, this study examines how a local child-centered program represents gender and sustains conventions through various forms of text and talk that perpetuate social inequalities. A random sampling technique is employed in the selection of ''Wansapanataym'' episodes from 2010 to 2017 with each of them examined according to the construction of their narrative and characters. With the intention to teach what are perceived as good morals in Philippine society, this research reveals that its themes are conscious efforts to teach and instill social roles appropriate to a person’s biological sex.
