C. (2018). An analysis of women representation in UP Pep Squad<br /> Performances from 2001 to 2015 as Mediated Through the Live Coverage of the<br /> UAAP Cheerdance Competition. Unpublished Undergraduate Thesis. University of<br /> the Philippines, College of Mass Communication.<br /> <br /> This study examines how the media portrays women in sports. This is achieved by<br /> answering the question: how are women represented in the mediated live television<br /> coverage of UP Pep Squad performances in the University Athletic Association of the<br /> Philippines Cheerdance Competition (UAAP CDC)?<br /> <br /> This research studies 15 performances of the UP Pep Squad from 2001 to 2015. It<br /> identifies the narratives of the coverage of the performances of the team. Then, it<br /> examines how these performances lead to the reinvention of the representation of women<br /> athletes in the media. Lastly, while utilizing the idea of gaze, it looks at the representation<br /> of women as framed and seen through the camera shots and angles of the live television<br /> coverage of the event.<br /> <br /> Ultimately, the study’s goal is to determine and to highlight the advancement and<br /> progress of the woman’s movement in sports; one step leading to that is by understanding<br /> a realm that has long been dominated by men.
