==The Organization==
The UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE is a duly recognized congregation of different provincial, regional and ethno-linguistic organizations in the University. Founded in 1975, its purpose is to study diverse cultures in the country; to boost solidarity and camaraderie among its member organizations; and to encourage a widening awareness and appreciation of our time-honored cultures and traditions among fellow Filipinos.

The UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE is one of the oldest yet one of the largest and most competitive student organizations in UP Diliman. Its membership is approximately 600 students from seventeen different provincial organizations duly recognized by the University.

UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE works to instill and foster unity and cultural exchange among its members, other students and even non-students. It organizes events which are all first-hand applications of such goals and endeavors and are all done for good causes.

In the past few years, the organization has embarked on various projects that have further pushed the standards of excellence, unity and cultural solidarity. These projects, including CULTURAL NIGHT (TanghalanLahi), FOODFEST (TsibuganLahi), SPORTSFEST (PalakasanLahi), INTER-ORGANIZATION QUIZ BEES (TagisanLahi) and INTER-HIGHSCHOOL QUIZ BEES (PatalasanLahi), serve as a meeting ground for students from different colleges and schools with different cultural backgrounds. Also, since the founding up to the present, it has been recognized as the umbrella organization of different organizations by the UP studentry, and has been recognized as an arm by the Office of the Student Regent.

In 2009, the Vice-Chairperson of Education and Research initiated a research project dubbed as "SALINLAHI: Exploring the Importance and Influence of UPD PRE Orgs" [[Image:SALINLAHI_by_UP_Sanlahi_Alliance_and_UP_CORE.pdf]]. This particular project introduced the term "PRE orgs" as a collective and short term when referring to provincial, regional and ethno-linguistic organizations.

==History==
When Martial Law was declared in 1972, all student organizations were illegalized (except for the [[Philippine Collegian]]). The students were then asserting their right to freedom of association. They believed gathering similar orgs together would strengthen and serve as a pillar for student power. In effect, the UP Sanlahi Alliance was born out of the need for umbrella bodies to press on the first ever held student elections hence a student government.

It was one of the successors of the Consultative Committee on Student Affairs (CONCOMSA I and II) and Committee on Student Affairs (COMSA), along with other student organization sectors namely ASAP (an alliance of social sciences orgs), APASS (an alliance of pure and applied sciences orgs), Fraternity Alliance and Dorm Councils.

When the tenure of COMSA expired and while student elections had not been held yet, these sectors somehow functioned as the legitimate student government in UP Diliman.

In addition, from these alliances emerged the student political party called Sandigan ng Mag-aaral para sa Sambayanan (SAMASA).

Through the alliances’ concerted efforts, the Student Government was re-established and then followed by the formation of student councils in other academic units of UPD.

After all these events, students in the other Metro Manila universities followed suit, and so student governments were also restored to more and more campuses not only in Metro Manila but throughout the country later on in the 80s.

The nine founding member organizations of UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE were:

Although the UP Sanlahi Alliance had already been working as an org on the third quarter of 1975, it was formally established during the first founding congress on the second semester of AY 1975-98 after it had been recognized. The first faculty adviser was Prof. Helen Estacio Lopez of the Department of English.

==Official Seal==

The official seal was created by Lloyd Llaga of UP Kalilayan. He won the logo-making contest in 1998.

The configuration of the whole logo is a square standing on one of its corners. This orientation represents the four major directions of the compass - UP Sanlahi Alliance covers all corners of the country. In the middle of all of it is an anahaw leaf to explain the material used to build the bahay-kubo; it is only one but a very important part of the house. It further symbolizes the tradition of "bayanihan" known by all. Behind it are the mountains with the sea as foreground. They emphasize the beauty of the geography and the persistence of UP Sanlahi Alliance to unite albeit separated by physical distance in the archipelago. There are also three stars to represent the major island groups and the colors of the flag behind. At the lower part is the year 1975 to commemorate the founding of the alliance. Wrapped around the logo are the name of the university and the alliance.

These projects, including CULTURAL NIGHT (TanghalanLahi), FOODFEST (TsibuganLahi), SPORTSFEST (PalakasanLahi), INTER-ORGANIZATION QUIZ BEES (TagisanLahi) and INTER-HIGHSCHOOL QUIZ BEES (PatalasanLahi), serve as a meeting ground for students from different colleges and schools with different cultural backgrounds. Also, since the founding up to the present, it has been recognized as the umbrella organization of different organizations by the UP studentry, and has been recognized as an arm by the Office of the Student Regent.

In 2009, the Vice-Chairperson of Education and Research initiated a research project dubbed as "SALINLAHI: Exploring the Importance and Influence of UPD PRE Orgs" [[Image:SALINLAHI_by_UP_Sanlahi_Alliance_and_UP_CORE.pdf]]. This particular project introduced the term "PRE orgs" as a collective and short term when referring to provincial, regional and ethno-linguistic organizations.

==History==
When Martial Law was declared in 1972, all student organizations were illegalized (except for the [[Philippine Collegian]]). The students were then asserting their right to freedom of association. They believed gathering similar orgs together would strengthen and serve as a pillar for student power. In effect, the UP Sanlahi Alliance was born out of the need for umbrella bodies to press on the first ever held student elections hence a student government.

It was one of the successors of the Consultative Committee on Student Affairs (CONCOMSA I and II) and Committee on Student Affairs (COMSA), along with other student organization sectors namely ASAP (an alliance of social sciences orgs), APASS (an alliance of pure and applied sciences orgs), Fraternity Alliance and Dorm Councils.

When the tenure of COMSA expired and while student elections had not been held yet, these sectors somehow functioned as the legitimate student government in UP Diliman.

In addition, from these alliances emerged the student political party called Sandigan ng Mag-aaral para sa Sambayanan (SAMASA).

Through the alliances’ concerted efforts, the Student Government was re-established and then followed by the formation of student councils in other academic units of UPD.

After all these events, students in the other Metro Manila universities followed suit, and so student governments were also restored to more and more campuses not only in Metro Manila but throughout the country later on in the 80s.

The nine founding member organizations of UP SANLAHI ALLIANCE were:

Although the UP Sanlahi Alliance had already been working as an org on the third quarter of 1975, it was formally established during the first founding congress on the second semester of AY 1975-98 after it had been recognized. The first faculty adviser was Prof. Helen Estacio Lopez of the Department of English.

==Official Seal==

The official seal was created by Lloyd Llaga of UP Kalilayan. He won the logo-making contest in 1998.

The configuration of the whole logo is a square standing on one of its corners. This orientation represents the four major directions of the compass - UP Sanlahi Alliance covers all corners of the country. In the middle of all of it is an anahaw leaf to explain the material used to build the bahay-kubo; it is only one but a very important part of the house. It further symbolizes the tradition of "bayanihan" known by all. Behind it are the mountains with the sea as foreground. They emphasize the beauty of the geography and the persistence of UP Sanlahi Alliance to unite albeit separated by physical distance in the archipelago. There are also three stars to represent the major island groups and the colors of the flag behind. At the lower part is the year 1975 to commemorate the founding of the alliance. Wrapped around the logo are the name of the university and the alliance.

Layunin nitong papag-ibayuhin ang pisikal at emosyonal na katatagan at kalagayan ng bawat kasapi ng samahan, bukod pa sa katangi-tanging pagsasama-sama na ginagawa nito sa mga kasaping nakikiisa sa nasabing aktibidad. Karaniwang isinasagawa ang mga larong pinoy o mga patimpalak na iniangkop sa ibang bansa. Ang grupong magwawagi ay tatanggap ng karampatang premyo.

===Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE)===
'''KULTURANG BULAKENYO.''' Isa sa mga pinakabagong proyektong ilulunsad ngayong semestre na magpopokus sa kultural na aspeto ng ating minamahal na probinsya. Sa pagsuong sa naiibang hakbanging ito ay hangad ng samahang lubusang mapalalim ang pagkakakilala at pagkaunawa ng mga mag-aaral ng UP sa Bulacan at gayon na rin sa samahan. Sa pakikipagkaisa ng USC ay maitatanghal na rin ng UP LAKAN sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon ang mga natatanging tao/bagay/lugar na kinapapanabikang matunghayan ng mga interesadong mag-aaral ng unibersidad. Ito ay mangyayari sa loob ng apat na oras, mula ika-1 hanggang ikalima ng hapon sa petsang itatakda ng USC.

'''PAGBIBIGAY-PUGAY SA MGA MIYEMBRO.''' Ito ay ginaganap tuwing huling buwan ng semestre. Layunin nitong pormal na kilalanin ang mga katangi-tanging nagawa at naging kotribusyon ng mga miyembro sa samahan sa buong semester. Naggagawad ng iba’t ibang awards at recognitions sa iba’t ibang kategorya tulad ng Best Member Award, Best New Member, Best Committee, Comedy King and Queen, Star for the Night, at marami pang iba. Dito rin binibigyang parangal ang mga miyembrong magsisipagtapos na ng kanilang pag-aaral sa naturang semestre.

'''EDUKASYONG PANG-ELEMENTARYA AT SEKONDARYA.''' Maituturing ang edukasyon bilang isang susing makatutulong upang makamtan ang ating mga pangarap. Kaugnay nito, isinusulong ng UP Lakan ang kahalagahan ng edukasyon lalung lalo na sa mga kabataan.

Pinagtitibay ito ng proyektong Pambatang Buklatan. Ito’y isang aktibidad ng samahan na naglalayong tulungan ang mga kapus-palad na mag-aaral na Bulakenyo. Ito ay ginaganap tuwing unang semestre ng taon kung saan pinagkakalooban ng mga libro at school supplies ang mga mag-aaral mula sa napiling paaralan sa Bulacan.

'''KALUSUGAN.''' Isang malusog at malakas na pangangatawan ang kinakailangan ng isang indibidwal upang maging produktibong mamamayan. Pinapahalagahan din ng UP Lakan ang paniniwalang ito sa isang taunang proyektong ginaganap tuwing ikalawang semestre - ang Medical Mission. Isang piling bayan sa Bulacan ang pinagkakalooban ng libreng serbisyong mediko mula sa sama-samang pagtutulungan ng mga doktor o medikong tao kaagapay ang tulong ng mga miyembro ng samahan.

===Christmas Special===
'''PAGBIBIGAY-SAYA.''' Taun-taong gawi na ng UP LAKAN ang magbigay-saya sa mga batang higit na nangangailangan lalo na tuwing Kapaskuhan. Kung pinapalad na mahusay na naisagawa ng kinatawan ng samahan ang pakikipag-ugnayan sa isang bahay ampunan ay dito itinatanghal ang mga presentasyong talaga namang pinaghandaan ng mga kasapi ng organisasyon. Magkakaroon din ng libreng pakain at mga munting regalo o alaala para sa mga batang ulila. Kung minsa’y ito na ang nagsisilbing Christmas Party ng samahan.

'''TAGISAN NG TALENTO.''' Ang taunang paligsahang ito ay nilalahukan ng mga mag-aaral sa sekondarya mula sa iba’t ibang paaralan sa buong Bulacan. Ang mga kategorya ay Di-Handang Talumpati (English at Filipino), Pagsulat ng Sanaysay (English at Filipino), Poster-Making Contest at Quiz Bee. Ang mananalo dito ang kakatawan sa Bulacan at sasabak sa Patalasang Lahi, isang taunang paligsahan ng Sanlahi Alliance kung saan naglalaban-laban lahat ng kumakatawan sa iba’t ibang probinsiya sa buong Pilipinas.

Sa durasyon ng buwang ito nahahanay ang hindi halos mabilang na mga aktibidad, pagtatanghal, palaro, at kasiyahan na magdudulot ng pambihirang karanasan hindi lamang sa mga miyembro ng UP LAKAN kundi pati na sa mga taong lalahok sa mga pangyayaring ito. Kabilang na sa mga ito ang (1) Inter-org Sports Competition kung saan hinihikayat ang iba’t-ibang provincial/non-provincial orgs na makilahok sa mga larong Pilipino (patintero, karerang kawayan, atbp.) at kung saan nais muling ipabatid ang diwa ng sportsmanship, (2) Inter-org Quiz Bee na nitong huli’y pinamagatang “POPtalbugan: POPasa ka ba?” kung saan tinitipon ang mga mag-aaral na mahilig sa popular culture sa isang naiibang pagsubok ng kakayahang matukoy ang mga pinakasikat at usap-usapang tao, bagay, o pangyayari sa kasalukuyan, (3) Flowers & Notes Day kung saan ang lahat ng kasapi na dadalo’t makikiisa ay binibigyan ng kalayaang magpahayag sa lahat ng kanilang mga itinatagong saloobin, mabuti man ang mga ito o masama, (4) Thanksgiving Mass kung saan ang mga kasapi ay sama-samang dumadalo ng isang misa sa Parish of the Holy Sacrifice bilang pasasalamat sa mga biyayang nakamit ng samahan sa nakalipas na taon at sa mga darating pa, at (5) Anniversary Night kung saan ang buong gabi ay ilalaan sa pagdiriwang ng anibersaryo ng pagkatatag ng organisasyon kasabay na ang pagpaparangal sa mga natatanging miyembro ng samahan na nagpamalas ng kani-kanilang mga kakayahan alang-alang sa UP LAKAN.

Ito ay ginaganap upang opisyal na wakasan ang nagdaang akademikong taon at pasimulan ang ligayang hatid ng summer vacation. Dito kung saan muling nagkakatipon ang samahan ay nagaganap ang mga recreational activities gaya ng languyan, laruan, kantahan, sawayan, kwentuhan, at marami pang iba.
